Job description

Job Title: IT Assistant

Department: Information Technology

Reports To: IT Manager

SUMMARY:

Assists the IT Manager in providing various IT support services to all departments and users by performing the following duties:


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES

Include the following:

  • Performs initial troubleshooting at all sub-buildings as assigned by the IT Manager.

This entails:

  1. Receiving service call assignments from the IT Manager or directly from the users. Such assignments will be limited to hardware and software issues affecting the proper operation of individual computers and peripherals (internet, email, network access, print routing, etc.). That may eventually involve networking issues.
  • Installs computers, printers, and software upgrades on all computers as assigned by the IT Manager.
  • Performs pro-active computer and software maintenance on a schedule set by the IT Manager.
  • Identifies and removes duplicate database entries. Assists the departments as needed in database related activities in order to improve the Assistant’s understanding of company activities.
  • Supports users and departments in databases, MS Dynamics CRM, MSI, Visual GA, ADP, Email, and Office productivity software.
  • Assists in maintaining the telephone system. Replace defective phone units, set up phone users, reboot control units and expansion panels.
  • Maintains all wireless devices (cell phones, tablets and laptops).
  • Maintains the company's computer labs and instructs lab users on basic word processing, email, and internet surfing.
  • Collaborate with the IT Team to implement and manage IT infrastructure projects.
  • Complies with personnel policies and procedures.
  • Maintains the confidentiality of the IT system, as well as protecting and securing the integrity of the IT system and data.
  • Assists the IT Manager in making approved purchases of equipment from approved vendors.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Proven experience as an IT Assistant or in a similar role.
  • Familiarity with hardware, software, and networking concepts.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team.
  • Basic knowledge of data security and privacy practices.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and three years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Associate degree in Information Technology or related field.
  • CompTIA A+ Certification required. CCNA certification desired but not required.
  • The individual must take all necessary trainings to improve their skills.

SPECIFIC SKILLS

  • Proficiency in Windows 7, 8, 10, and 11, Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, and PowerPoint), Social media services.
  • Ability to quickly diagnose computer hardware and software issues and resolve them independently.
  • Proven ability to setup computer systems and peripherals and install all productivity software.
  • Basic knowledge of the workings of a computer and the most common peripherals.
  • Ability to work independently and utilize good judgment to protect the integrity of the IT system and data.
