Description

Position Purpose: 

The IT & Security Specialist is responsible for providing technical support, administration, and expertise for the Tribe's information technology and cybersecurity systems. This position assists with the design, implementation, maintenance, and security of technology infrastructure across all Tribal locations. The IT & Security Specialist evaluates, troubleshoots, and resolves complex technical issues. Responsibilities include administration and support of servers, network infrastructure, user systems, cybersecurity tools, multi-factor authentication, camera systems, access control systems, and other critical technology services. This position serves as a key technical resource in maintaining reliable and secure IT operations and assists with continuity of technology services during periods of increased operational need or staff availability changes.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide advanced technical support and guidance to Tribal staff and departments regarding information technology and cybersecurity issues.
  • Administer, maintain, and troubleshoot computer systems, servers, virtual environments, network infrastructure, and related technology systems.
  • Install, configure, maintain, and support hardware, software, operating systems, and endpoint management solutions.
  • Manage user accounts, permissions, access controls, and authentication systems in accordance with Tribal policies and security requirements.
  • Implement and support cybersecurity initiatives, including multi-factor authentication, endpoint security, vulnerability remediation, security awareness efforts, and other security technologies.
  • Maintain and support network infrastructure, including switches, firewalls, wireless systems, VPNs, and related equipment.
  • Assist with the implementation and maintenance of camera systems, access control systems, and other physical security technologies.
  • Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and recommend improvements to maintain reliable and secure technology operations.
  • Perform routine maintenance, updates, patches, backups, and recovery procedures for critical systems.
  • Participate in technology projects, including planning, deployment, testing, documentation, and ongoing support.
  • Evaluate technology solutions and provide recommendations for improvements to IT systems and services.
  • Maintain accurate system documentation, including configurations, procedures, inventories, and troubleshooting records.
  • Communicate effectively with vendors, service providers, and external organizations regarding technical issues and projects.
  • Maintain confidentiality and security of Tribal information systems and sensitive data.
  • Provide exceptional customer service and technical support to Tribal departments and staff.
  • Perform all duties in accordance with Tribal policies, procedures, internal controls, and applicable regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Requirements

Education and Experience:

  Required:

  • Associate's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Systems, or a closely related field; or a minimum of three (3) years of experience.
  • Demonstrated experience troubleshooting, maintaining, and supporting computer systems, network infrastructure, and end-user technology in a professional environment.
  • Experience administering or supporting enterprise technology systems, including user accounts, permissions, authentication systems, backups, and security controls.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel between Tribal facilities as required.
  • Ability to successfully pass and maintain required background investigations and eligibility for access to restricted Tribal information systems, including CJIS, Gaming Commission systems, or other sensitive information systems.

  Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • Experience administering Microsoft 365, Active Directory, virtualization platforms, firewalls, enterprise networking, backup and disaster recovery solutions, and endpoint management systems.
  • Experience implementing cybersecurity technologies, security policies, vulnerability remediation, or incident response procedures.
  • Industry certifications such as CompTIA Security+, Network+, Server+, Microsoft, Cisco, VMware, ISC, EC-Council, or other relevant technology certifications.
  • Experience managing or participating in technology projects, system deployments, and infrastructure improvements.
  • Experience working in Tribal government, local government, gaming, healthcare, education, or other environments with regulated or sensitive information.

  • Interact professionally with other team members, customers, and suppliers. 
  • Work effectively as a team contributor on all assignments. 
  • Work independently while understanding the necessity for communicating and coordinating work efforts with other team members and organizations.

  • Valid Driver's License and Insurance.

The employee is expected to maintain the highest level of confidentiality and security in accordance with Tribal policies, applicable laws, and professional standards. Failure to do so may result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination, in accordance with Tribal policy.

Work Requirements:
