THE ROLE:
AMD is seeking a Manufacturing Technician to support our System Level Test (SLT) Engineering Lab in Austin, Texas. This is a highly hands-on position focused on maintaining, troubleshooting, and optimizing test systems used to validate next-generation AMD silicon products. Working in a fast-paced hardware lab environment, you will partner closely with engineers and technicians to ensure test equipment is operating reliably and efficiently.
The ideal candidate enjoys working directly with hardware, diagnosing issues, performing preventative maintenance, and supporting critical lab operations. This role offers exposure to advanced server platforms, silicon validation activities, and cutting-edge semiconductor technologies. The position is fully onsite and requires working a compressed night-shift schedule.
THE PERSON:
You are a motivated, hands-on technician who enjoys working with electronics, computer hardware, and advanced manufacturing or test equipment. You take pride in diagnosing and resolving technical issues, performing preventative maintenance, and ensuring equipment operates at peak performance.
You are detail-oriented, eager to learn, and thrive in environments where no two days are exactly the same. Whether working independently or collaborating with engineers and fellow technicians, you bring a proactive mindset and a strong commitment to operational excellence.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Support System Level Test (SLT) equipment setup and operation for silicon validation activities.
  • Perform software, firmware, and BIOS updates on test systems.
  • Troubleshoot test failures, electronic circuit boards, and hardware-related issues.
  • Execute tester validation and preventive maintenance activities to maximize equipment uptime.
  • Perform component-level repairs and soldering as needed.
  • Use diagnostic tools, including multimeters, to support hardware troubleshooting.
  • Partner with engineering and operations teams to support daily lab activities and priorities.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
  • Hands-on experience with test equipment installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience using multimeters and performing basic electronic diagnostics; soldering experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of computer hardware, including servers, memory, storage, and system assembly.
  • Basic Linux operating system and command-line experience.
  • Familiarity with preventive maintenance, calibration processes, and tester validation.
  • Experience with liquid cooling systems is a plus.
  • Technical background in Electronics, Electrical, Mechanical, Manufacturing Technology, or a related field.

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:
  • Associate degree, technical diploma, military technical training, or equivalent experience in Electronics, Electrical Technology, Mechanical Technology, Manufacturing Technology, or a related field preferred.
  • Relevant technical certifications are considered a plus.

SHIFT:
  • This is a rotational night shift position
