Job description

JOB TITLE: CNC Operator

DEPARTMENT: Wood Shop

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

REPORTS: Plant Manager

Under the direction of the area supervisor, the CNC Operator serves as the functional leader for preparation of production schedules that require modification of parts received. The operator will interact with key team members in manufacturing, production, and engineering departments to leverage the use of the CNC machine and other tools to fulfill orders in the production environment.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Read and interpret blueprints to comprehend work requirements. Refer to the specifications, drawings, and reference planes as deemed necessary to complete projects effectively.
  • Plan machining activities to coordinate production schedules, engineering plans, and other work order needs.
  • Check inventory stock to ensure appropriate materials are available for machining needs. Coordinate with supervisor and Purchasing Department to re-order low supplies.
  • Safely load and unload materials into the machinery.
  • Enter instructions and program mills and lathes to ensure smooth operation of all machines and equipment.
  • Meet tolerance environments of the machine by setting gauges and measuring instruments appropriately.
  • Perform regular and preventative maintenance on machines, equipment, tools and gauges used in the process.
  • Follow machining process from very beginning to the end to ensure quality of parts processed.
  • Isolate any product that may not conform to print standards.
  • Trouble shoot machining problems during the process to ensure efficiency and accuracy of all procedures. Provide tooling and fixture improvements as a result of such evaluations.
  • Ensure that machinery and equipment are properly lubricated before each process initiation.
  • Ensure all drills utilized are maintained or replaced to ensure correct cut tolerances to blueprint specifications.
  • Complete all paperwork and reports as required for the process.
  • Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
  • Perform post-resolution follow-ups to client community problem requests.
  • Perform work on evenings and weekends as required.
  • All other duties as assigned.

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience of 2-3 years of related activities. May be entry level if some experience from internship or full proficiency attained in a specific area of discipline.
