Job description

Early Learning Certified Instructor 
Lincoln Community Center/MAPS Center for Learning
 

Mankato Area Public Schools has positions available for Certified Instructors with the Early Learning department beginning August 24, 2026, for 178 days on a 9-month calendar.
Hours: 7:30am to 3:00pm Monday through Friday 
Summary of Duties:
The Early Learning Certified Instructor is responsible for working under program leadership to lead a safe and engaging environment for children enrolled in the program. This position is responsible for the daily implementation of curriculum and planned activities and supervision of site staff.  If placed within a MAPS Preschool Classroom, the Certified Instructor will be partnered with Licensed Teachers to lead this work in partnership.  If placed within an Early Childhood Care Environment, the Certified Instructor leads this work independently.
Qualifications:






I. Education and Experience Requirements:

Possess a combination of education, training, and/or work experience that meets the Minnesota Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCFY) licensing requirements for a teacher in a licensed childcare setting.
This includes one of the following:

  • A high school diploma or GED, along with a minimum of 4,160 hours of qualifying experience as a staff member in a licensed child care program.
  • Completion of at least 24 postsecondary semester credits in early childhood education, child development, or a closely related field, along with 2,080 hours of qualifying experience.
  • A two-year associate's degree or higher in early childhood education, child development, or a closely related field, along with 520 hours of qualifying experience.
  • A bachelor's degree or higher in early childhood education, child development, or a closely related field, with no additional work experience required.

II. Language Proficiency:

  • Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking the English language.

III. Background Check:

  • Must pass a background check through the Minnesota Department of Human Services.

IV. Health and Physical Requirements:

  • Current First Aid and CPR certification or must be obtained within the first 90 days of employment.
  • Ability to physically carry out job tasks: sitting on the floor, running, walking, lifting.

Rate of Pay: 
Starting Pay is $19.57 per hour, based on experience and credentials
