What does an entry level CCTV operator do?

An entry level CCTV operator is responsible for monitoring surveillance camera footage to help ensure the safety and security of a property or area. Their main duties include observing live video feeds, reporting suspicious activity, and assisting security personnel with incident response. They may also be responsible for recording evidence, maintaining logs, and ensuring that all equipment is functioning correctly. This role often serves as a starting point for those interested in a career in security or law enforcement.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Entry Level CCTV Operator, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Entry Level CCTV Operator, you need attention to detail, basic knowledge of surveillance procedures, and a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with CCTV monitoring software, video recording systems, and sometimes Security Industry Authority (SIA) certification is typically required. Strong observational skills, reliability, and clear communication are vital soft skills for reporting incidents and collaborating with security teams. These skills and qualities are essential to ensure the effective monitoring and protection of premises, helping to prevent and respond to security incidents.

What are some common challenges an entry level CCTV operator may face during their initial months on the job?
