Summary
The Protection & Control (P&C) Engineering Associate is an entry-level technical role. Under supervision, the Distribution P&C Engineering Associate installs, tests, maintains and provides analysis for the proper operation of distribution protection, control, monitoring, and automation systems. The P&C Engineering Associate provides technical support to Distribution organizations in developing operational processes, procedures and the development remedial action plans.
This Position is responsible for complying with all Oncor policies, safe work practices, and procedures.
Key Roles & Responsibilities
Under direct supervision, the incumbent:
โ€ข Performs all work assignments consistent with the Oncor Distribution Safety Handbook.
โ€ข Ensures the initial accuracy and performance of distribution protection, control, monitoring, and automation systems through the use of proper installation and commissioning processes & procedures.
โ€ข Ensures ongoing accurate performance of protection, control, monitoring, and automation systems through the executing of effective testing, calibration, monitoring, maintenance, and analysis processes & procedures.
โ€ข Evaluates and provides analysis of various diagnostic test results, recommending remedial action plans when test results warrant.
โ€ข Assists in the development of testing procedures and data accumulation methods for load studies; operational tests; and effective preventative maintenance of Oncor protection, control, monitoring, and automation equipment.
โ€ข Maintains documentation regarding the design and maintenance of installed protection, control, monitoring, and automation systems on the Oncor Distribution system.
โ€ข Ensures the reliability and operation of Distribution Automation (DA) systems, submitting actions items required for successful operation of the Oncor distribution system.
โ€ข Works closely with vendors, manufactures, and Oncor engineering groups in researching, developing, and implementing new technology.
โ€ข May be required to monitor, govern, and provide documentation for asbestos abatement projects in the underground network of Oncor's distribution system.
โ€ข May be required to schedule, supervise, and monitor feeder clearances for work to be performed on Oncor distribution network systems.
Education, Experience, & Skill Requirements
โ€ข High school diploma, GED or equivalent required.
โ€ข Possess or is committed to working towards:
โ€ข Two-year Associates degree in an Electrical Power & Controls, Electronics, or Engineering Technology discipline at an accredited college or university or;
โ€ข A Bachelor of Science in Electronics / Electrical Engineering Technology degree or similar field.
โ€ข Candidates working towards an A.A.S. degree or BS degree will be expected to complete the course curriculum in a reasonable amount of time as determined by Distribution Grid Technology management.
โ€ข Military personnel who have at least 3 years of experience working with electronic/electrical equipment and/ or successfully complete the SkillBridge internship program will be considered for this position.
โ€ข All candidates must be able to complete the Distribution P&C Development program in a timely manner.
โ€ข Proficiency in electrical/electronic theory.
โ€ข Competency in the use of computer hardware and software.
โ€ข Effective communicate skills - both verbally and in the written form.
โ€ข Must possess valid driver's license.

โ€ข Safe, secure and reliable operation of the distribution electric system protection, control, and automation systems.
โ€ข The ability to install and commission protection, control, and automation equipment on distribution equipment and circuits; ensuring their correct operation and without latent errors.
โ€ข The ability to address routine malfunctioning protection, control, and automation systems with minimal assistance and supervision.
โ€ข The ability to understand and utilize emerging technologies and their application to distribution protection, control, and automation systems.
