The Business Development Representative plays a key role in introducing prospective healthcare organizations to athenahealth by serving as the first point of contact in the sales process. This role focuses on responding to inbound inquiries, engaging potential customers, and assessing initial needs to support salesqualification.This hybrid position is based in Boston, MA; Austin, TX; or Atlanta, GA, with a minimum of three days per week in the office.This role reports to the Business Development Manager.

About the Team

The Business Development Representative team supports theearly stagesof the sales lifecycle by engaging healthcare practices that express interest in athenahealth's services. The team partners closely with Sales Executives to ensuretimelyfollow-up andaccuratequalification of inbound inquiries. Team members primarily use phone, email, andSalesforcetools to manage and track outreach. This team also serves as a common entry point for advancing a career within sales at athenahealth.

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Respond to inbound sales inquiries from medical practices ina timelyand professional manner.

  • Engage prospective customers through phone and email outreach to understand their needs and interests.

  • Communicate the value of athenahealth services clearly and accurately to prospective customers.

  • Qualify and nurture inbound leads based on defined criteria and sales readiness.

  • Document interactions and updateprospectinformation in CRM systems.

  • Collaborate with Sales Executives by transferring qualified leads and sharing relevantcontext.

  • Follow established sales processes and messaging whilemaintaininga positive customer experience.

  • Use available AI-powered tools (such as email draftingassistance, call summaries, or research tools) to improve productivity, support learning, and enhance the quality of customer interactions.

Additional Job Responsibilities

  • Participatein onboarding, training, and ongoing development activities related to sales and healthcare technology.

  • Stay informed about athenahealth offerings, healthcare industry trends, and customer needs.

  • Contribute feedback to improve outreach processes, messaging, and customer experience.

Expected Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.

Expected Compensation

$36,000 - $62,000

The base salary range shown reflects the full range for this role from minimum to maximum. At athenahealth, base pay depends on multiple factors, including job-related experience, relevantknowledge and skills, how your qualifications compare to others in similar roles,and geographical market rates.
