As of Jul 13, 2026, the average hourly pay for entry level bricklayer in the United States is $29.09, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $22.12 and $32.45 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

How can I get a construction job with no experience?

Entry level bricklayers can start by gaining basic physical fitness, learning about masonry tools and techniques, and seeking apprenticeships or entry-level positions that do not require prior experience. Completing relevant safety certifications and demonstrating a willingness to learn can improve chances of employment in construction roles.

Do bricklayers get paid 1 pound per brick?

Bricklayers are typically paid based on an hourly rate, daily rate, or project fee, rather than per brick. Payment structures vary by region and employer, but paying a fixed amount per brick is uncommon and may not comply with minimum wage laws or industry standards. Skilled bricklayers focus on quality and efficiency rather than per-unit pay.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Entry Level Bricklayer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Entry Level Bricklayer, you need basic knowledge of masonry techniques, physical stamina, and a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with hand tools, mortar mixers, measuring tapes, and safety equipment is typically required, and OSHA safety certification can be beneficial. Attention to detail, teamwork, and a willingness to learn are important soft skills that help new bricklayers stand out. These competencies are essential for ensuring quality construction, maintaining safety standards, and supporting efficient work on building sites.

What is the difference between Entry Level Bricklayer vs Apprentice Bricklayer?

Job RoleAssists with bricklaying tasks, follows instructions, performs basic masonry workLearn masonry skills, assist with tasks, gradually take on more responsibilities

In summary, an Entry Level Bricklayer is typically a worker with basic training ready to perform masonry tasks, while an Apprentice Bricklayer is actively learning the trade through hands-on experience and mentorship. Both roles are essential in the masonry industry, with apprentices focusing on skill development and entry-level workers executing basic tasks.

What are some common challenges faced by entry level bricklayers, and how can they be addressed?

Entry level bricklayers often encounter challenges such as mastering proper mortar mixing techniques, ensuring precise brick alignment, and working efficiently under supervision. Adapting to outdoor work conditions, including varying weather and physical demands, is also common. These challenges can be addressed through hands-on training, seeking feedback from experienced colleagues, and staying proactive about safety and ergonomics. Regular practice and a willingness to learn from more seasoned bricklayers help new hires build confidence and skills quickly.

Can I be a bricklayer with no experience?

Entry level bricklaying jobs typically do not require prior experience, as employers often provide on-the-job training. Basic skills such as physical fitness, attention to detail, and the ability to learn construction techniques are important, and obtaining certifications like OSHA safety training can improve job prospects.

What are entry level bricklayers?

Entry level bricklayers are individuals who are just starting out in the masonry trade, typically with little to no prior experience. They assist experienced bricklayers in tasks such as mixing mortar, carrying materials, and laying bricks or blocks under supervision. Entry level bricklayers also learn to read blueprints, use masonry tools, and follow safety procedures on construction sites. This position often serves as a stepping stone to becoming a fully qualified bricklayer through on-the-job training or an apprenticeship program.

What jobs pay 4000 a week without a degree?

Entry level bricklayers can potentially earn around $4,000 a week through overtime, high-demand projects, or working in regions with higher wages. Skilled trades like construction, plumbing, or electrical work often pay well without requiring a college degree, especially with experience and certifications. However, such high weekly earnings are typically associated with experienced professionals or those working in specialized or high-paying sectors.
