Job description

Performs responsible entry-level custodial and maintenance work, as well as the collection and disposal of trash, janitorial duties and solid waste throughout the Town of South Hill Facilities. This position is under the direction and supervision of the Superintendent.

Responsible for the following:

  • Perform daily tasks and custodial assignments;
  • Perform short and long term maintenance and repair activities as assigned by Supervisor;
  • Perform and inspect all Town facilities for proper working conditions and order on a regular and scheduled basis;
  • Perform variety of entry level maintenance tasks involving carpentry, light electrical, plumbing, painting, masonry, HVAC and other building and equipment maintenance;
  • Install, repair/replace receptacles, switches, light fixtures, light bulbs, air vents, and other building and equipment preventative maintenance;
  • Accurately diagnose malfunctions and troubleshoot appropriate repair as needed;
  • Occasionally needed to help with conference room set up which involves moving and arrangement of chairs/tables, etc.;
  • Pick up paper, debris and litter on public property, parks and streets;
  • Maintain and clean all facility restrooms, including supplying park restrooms with necessary supplies;
  • Clean and maintain tennis and basketball court facilities;
  • Ensure that park play equipment is clean and safe from debris;
  • Maintain and operate and clean maintenance tools and equipment and keep in good working order;
  • Maintain and operate safe and clean work area to include work vehicles and shop upkeep of tools and supplies;
  • May require assistance for non-routine tasks;
  • Willing to work overtime when needed for special events/other town-related activities;
  • Performs related tasks as required or assigned.
