Job Summary

The Retail Associate 1 is an entry-level position responsible for delivering a positive customer experience through learning and performing retail sales and operational tasks. This role focuses heavily on developing foundational job skills, gaining product knowledge, and supporting the overall store team to ensure a well-maintained, customer-friendly environment.

Requirements

Essential Job Functions

Customer Service & Sales Support: 

  • Greet customers, assist them on the sales floor, answer basic product questions, and help guide purchasing decisions under the direction of senior staff.  
  • Working knowledge of one MonkeySports categories 

Culture: 

  • Promote and actively contribute to MonkeySports' positive team culture by maintaining a friendly, respectful, and collaborative attitude with both customers and coworkers. 

Merchandising & Store Presentation: 

  • Assist in stocking shelves, organizing product displays, folding apparel, maintaining size runs, and ensuring merchandise areas are clean and visually appealing. 

Cashier Duties: 

  • Process basic sales transactions, operate the point-of-sale system with training, handle returns/exchanges under supervision, and ensure accurate cash handling. 

Training & Skill Development: 

  • Participate actively in training sessions to build product knowledge and retail competencies. Seek feedback and demonstrate growth in learned areas. 

Store Maintenance: 

  • Support cleanliness standards by sweeping, wiping counters, managing fitting rooms, and assisting with general upkeep tasks. 

Inventory Assistance: 

  • Help with receiving shipments, tagging merchandise, and restocking sales floor as directed by supervisors. 

Additional Responsibilities and Requirements

  • Follow all company policies, procedures, and safety standards. 
  • Promote a positive team environment by assisting peers and accepting direction from leadership. 
  • Support special promotions, events, or vendor days as needed. 
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to meet business needs. 

Qualifications, Education, and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred. 
  • No prior retail experience required; training will be provided. 
  • Interest in sports or sporting goods is a plus. 
  • Ability to learn point-of-sale systems, basic math for cash handling, and company procedures. 
  • Strong communication skills with a customer-focused mindset. 

Cognitive and Physical Demands

  • Standing and Walking: Spending long hours on their feet, moving around the store to assist customers and execute daily operational tasks 
  • Lifting and Carrying: Handling merchandise, which may involve lifting and carrying items of varying weights up to 50 LBS 
  • Reaching and Bending: Frequently reaching for items on shelves and bending to access lower shelves or storage areas 
  • Manual Dexterity: Using hands to operate cash registers, computers, and other equipment 

Working Conditions

  • Primarily works in a retail store environment with direct customer interaction. 
  • May occasionally assist with receiving shipments or moving products in backroom or stock areas. 
  • Flexible schedule required, including evenings, weekends, and holidays based on business needs. Weekend work is required. 
  • Seasonal position ending August 2026
