Entry Level Azure Devops Engineer information

What is an entry level Azure DevOps engineer?

An Entry Level Azure DevOps Engineer is a professional who assists in designing, implementing, and managing DevOps practices using Microsoft Azure cloud services. Their responsibilities typically include automating workflows, managing code deployments, setting up continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines, and collaborating with development and operations teams to ensure smooth software delivery. They often work under the guidance of senior engineers and are expected to have a foundational understanding of Azure services, version control systems, and scripting languages. This role is ideal for individuals starting their careers in cloud-based DevOps environments.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an entry level Azure DevOps engineer?

To thrive as an Entry Level Azure DevOps Engineer, you need a solid understanding of cloud computing fundamentals, scripting languages (like PowerShell or Python), and foundational knowledge of CI/CD practices, typically supported by a relevant degree or certification such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Fundamentals. Familiarity with Azure DevOps Services, version control systems like Git, and infrastructure-as-code tools such as ARM templates or Terraform is commonly required. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and teamwork are valuable soft skills in this role. These competencies enable efficient automation, reliable deployments, and smooth collaboration, which are essential for maintaining robust and scalable cloud infrastructures.

What types of projects and tools can an entry level Azure DevOps engineer expect to work with on a daily basis?

As an Entry Level Azure DevOps Engineer, you will typically collaborate with software developers, QA engineers, and IT teams to automate deployment pipelines and manage cloud infrastructure using Azure services. Common tasks include configuring CI/CD pipelines with Azure DevOps, monitoring application performance, managing code repositories in Git, and writing scripts for automation. You may also assist in troubleshooting deployment issues and maintaining documentation to support team workflows. This hands-on exposure is valuable for building foundational skills and understanding best practices in cloud-based DevOps environments.

What is the difference between Entry Level Azure Devops Engineer vs Junior Cloud Engineer?

AspectEntry Level Azure Devops EngineerJunior Cloud Engineer
CertificationsAzure Fundamentals, Azure DevOps certificationsCloud certifications (AWS, Azure, GCP) often preferred
Work EnvironmentFocus on DevOps tools, CI/CD pipelines, automation within AzureBroader cloud environment, including deployment, management, and support
Industry UsagePrimarily in organizations using Azure cloud platformUsed across multiple cloud providers and hybrid environments

Entry Level Azure Devops Engineers typically focus on Azure-specific DevOps tools, automation, and CI/CD pipelines, often requiring Azure certifications. Junior Cloud Engineers have a broader scope, working with multiple cloud platforms and cloud management tasks. Both roles are entry-level but differ in specialization and scope within cloud environments.

Can I get an entry level Azure Devops engineer job with no experience?

Entry level Azure DevOps Engineer positions typically require some foundational knowledge of DevOps practices, version control, and cloud services, but many employers are willing to consider candidates with limited experience if they demonstrate strong technical skills and a willingness to learn. Gaining certifications like Microsoft Certified: DevOps Engineer Expert or Azure Fundamentals can improve your chances. Practical experience through internships, personal projects, or labs can also help compensate for a lack of formal work experience.

  • Experience with Authority to Operate (ATO) processes and security documentation
  • Experience with serverless architecture, including API Gateway, and system design, including scalability and reliability
  • Experience creating and improving continuous automation across multiple technical stacks, and triaging and resolving issues related to both open-source and commercial tools in public cloud environments
  • Knowledge of container security, runtime protection, security best practices, compliance requirements, compliance automation, and continuous monitoring
  • Master's degree in a technical field
  • IAT Level II or IAT Level III Certification, such as Security+ or CISSP Certification
