AWS Infrastructure Engineer (Intermediate) - Platform Engineering
Location: Columbus, OH or Dallas, TX (Onsite 4 days/week, 1 day remote)
Job Type: Contract to Hire
About the Role
Join a high-impact Platform Engineering team supporting the backbone of a rapidly scaling Data Science organization. As an AWS Infrastructure Engineer, you will design, deploy, and manage modern AWS environments, empowering data scientists to innovate faster. You will ensure the reliability, scalability, and security of our Data Science platform, collaborating closely with experts across Networking, Database, and Architecture teams. This is a hands-on opportunity to expand your expertise in cloud infrastructure and AI/ML services while working in a dynamic, hybrid environment.
Responsibilities
- Design, deploy, and maintain AWS environments using CI/CD pipelines to support data scientists' needs
- Manage large-scale, secure AWS infrastructure for Data Science, AI, and Data Lake solutions
- Implement and optimize image management lifecycle processes for cloud environments
- Set up and manage AWS accounts and resources dedicated to Data Science operations
- Develop Infrastructure as Code (IaC) with Terraform and automate workflows with Python
- Support and troubleshoot Kubernetes clusters, Docker containers, and production workloads
- Administer and optimize databases including Athena, Oracle, MySQL, and Postgres
- Enforce robust security practices, resolve vulnerabilities, and maintain compliance audit logs
- Perform system upgrades, patching, and provide on-call support as needed
- Conduct root cause analysis and knowledge transfer sessions to upskill internal teams
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align infrastructure projects and strategies
Required Skills and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field
- At least 2 years in Data Science Infrastructure roles
- Extensive hands-on experience with AWS (EC2, S3, Lambda, Glue, SageMaker, Athena)
- Strong Kubernetes background, cluster management, and production support
- Proficiency in CI/CD tools (Azure DevOps) and IaC (Terraform)
- Programming/scripting with Python
- Familiarity with Docker, ECR, and security tools (AQUA, Kenna)
- Proven technical documentation and communication skills
Preferred Skills
- AWS and Terraform certifications, Kubernetes or CKA certification
- Experience with technical service management and product life cycle maintenance
- Advanced database expertise (Athena, Oracle, MySQL)
- Shell scripting proficiency
