How much do entry level automotive cybersecurity engineer jobs pay per year?

As of Jun 28, 2026, the average yearly pay for entry level automotive cybersecurity engineer in the United States is $69,362.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $51,500.00 and $78,500.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

Can you make $500,000 a year in cyber security?

Entry level automotive cybersecurity engineers typically do not earn $500,000 annually; such high salaries are usually associated with senior roles, specialized expertise, or leadership positions in cybersecurity. Most salaries for entry-level roles range from $60,000 to $90,000, with higher earnings possible as experience, certifications, and skills like penetration testing or secure coding increase.

What does an Entry Level Automotive Cybersecurity Engineer do?

An Entry Level Automotive Cybersecurity Engineer helps protect vehicles' electronic systems, networks, and software from cyber threats. They work with senior engineers to identify vulnerabilities, implement security measures, and test automotive systems for weaknesses. Their responsibilities often include monitoring for security breaches, conducting risk assessments, and assisting in the development of secure vehicle software. This role is essential as modern cars increasingly rely on interconnected systems that can be targeted by hackers.

Is 25 too late for cyber security?

Entry level automotive cybersecurity engineers can start at age 25, as the field values relevant skills, certifications, and knowledge of cybersecurity tools. Many professionals enter the field after gaining related education or experience, and age is generally not a barrier to starting a cybersecurity career.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Entry Level Automotive Cybersecurity Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Entry Level Automotive Cybersecurity Engineer, you need a solid understanding of computer science fundamentals, networking, and cybersecurity concepts, typically supported by a bachelor's degree in computer engineering, computer science, or a related field. Familiarity with automotive communication protocols (such as CAN, LIN), penetration testing tools, and industry standards like ISO/SAE 21434 or relevant certifications such as CompTIA Security+ is highly beneficial. Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and effective teamwork help individuals excel in identifying vulnerabilities and collaborating with cross-functional teams. These skills and qualifications are essential to ensure the safety and security of increasingly connected automotive systems against cyber threats.

What types of projects and team collaborations can I expect as an Entry Level Automotive Cybersecurity Engineer?

As an Entry Level Automotive Cybersecurity Engineer, you will typically work on projects that involve assessing and strengthening the security of automotive electronic systems, such as infotainment units, telematics, and advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS). You’ll collaborate closely with hardware and software engineers, quality assurance teams, and sometimes external vendors to conduct risk assessments, implement security controls, and perform penetration testing. Expect to participate in regular team meetings to discuss vulnerabilities, share findings, and develop solutions. This role offers a dynamic environment where you can learn from senior engineers and gain exposure to industry-standard security protocols and automotive technologies.

Are there any entry-level cyber security jobs?

Entry-level cybersecurity jobs are available across various industries, including roles such as cybersecurity analyst, security technician, or junior engineer. These positions often require foundational knowledge of network security, familiarity with security tools, and sometimes certifications like CompTIA Security+; they typically offer opportunities to gain hands-on experience and develop specialized skills.

Can you get a job in cybersecurity with no experience?

Entry level automotive cybersecurity engineer positions often require some foundational knowledge of cybersecurity principles, networking, and programming, but many employers are willing to consider candidates with little to no professional experience if they demonstrate relevant skills through certifications, coursework, or personal projects. Gaining certifications like CompTIA Security+ or completing relevant training can improve chances of securing such roles. Internships or entry-level positions may also provide on-the-job training for newcomers to the field.
