Job description

Designer job at Primary Services. Houston, TX.

Join a company where engineering precision drives real-world impact. Work with industry-leading tools on high-performance systems that power major infrastructure projects. Enjoy a structured schedule while collaborating with experts in mechanical design and drafting.

Primary Services is actively recruiting for a Designer to support our client, a large and well-established industrial engineering company. This role will support technical design functions by converting and cleaning mechanical component drawings using SolidEdge, with a strong focus on accuracy and standards compliance. If you bring expertise in large assemblies, Autodesk Vault, and Inventor, this is an opportunity to work on critical systems in a detail-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop large mechanical assemblies, including skids, structural frames, mold tooling, piping systems, and machine components.
  • Create 3D models and detailed fabrication drawings using Autodesk Inventor and Autodesk Vault for manufacturing and assembly.
  • Collaborate with engineers on R&D projects, prototyping, and design for manufacturability.
  • Participate in design reviews, offering feedback on assembly feasibility, safety, and cost optimization.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and revision control using Autodesk Vault and related software.
  • Coordinate with machine shops, procurement, and vendors during the fabrication process.
  • Apply GD&T (ASME Y14.5) principles and follow company/industry standards for drawing accuracy and clarity.
Required Qualifications
  • 1-2 years of experience in mechanical design and drafting, preferably in oil & gas, manufacturing, or industrial equipment.
  • Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor designing large assemblies.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems, structural components, and industrial equipment layouts.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, standards, and customer specifications.
  • Experience designing for fabrication, machining, and mechanical assembly.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience designing in Autodesk Vault.
  • Familiarity with ASME, API, ATEX, and IECX standards.
