Job OverviewThis position is responsible for providing all basic legal services required as part of the in-house legal team although the primary focus is supporting the Land, Environmental, Gas Storage, and Contracts Departments. This position provides professional legal services, representation, guidance, and advice, performs legal research, drafts documents and pleadings. Responsibilities also include representing company in judicial or administrative proceedings and/or managing outside counsel representing company in such proceedings. Position will work under supervision of a more experienced attorney. Performs a wide spectrum of tasks that range in complexity.Company Overview

Responsibilities

Learn about the natural gas pipeline industry in general and the company specifically Develop skills in variety of legal disciplines (e.g., land, environmental, labor, employment, contract, regulatory, etc.) prior to developing deeper expertise in one or more such disciplines Research legal aspects of business issues and render opinions based on such research Assist with the analysis and avoidance or mitigation of business risks Assist with education of workforce on legal matters or legal aspects of business matters Assist with preparation of legal documents Assist with lawsuits, negotiations, grievances, mediations, arbitrations, etc. Attend all assigned educational courses (internal or external) Maintain required Continuing Legal Education (CLE) Assist with creation and management of departmental budget Assist with ensuring overall compliance of organization Serving on or leading teams as requested Offer suggestions for providing legal services in a more efficient, effective manner All other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Juris Doctor or equivalent degree from certified law school
  • License to practice law in one state (KY, MO, KS or OK) and/or the ability to obtain a limited license in Kentucky within 6 months of hire
  • Entry level legal experience. (Will consider candidates with more experience).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse individuals at all levels and areas within the organization
  • Ability to problem solve
  • Ability to work comfortably in both corporate and field settings
  • Ability to research, design and deliver effective presentations
  • Ability to explain and teach legal concepts in layperson's terms
  • Ability to appropriately handle confidential data
  • Ability to review and draft various legal documents
  • Ability to work independentlyIntermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office Word and Outlook, basic proficiency with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with real property law including the drafting and interpretation of easements, leases, and deeds.
  • Experience with commercial law and drafting and review of various contracts such as master service agreements, book contracts, consulting agreements, purchase orders, and non-disclosure agreements.

  • Travel 5 - 10% average, automobile and plane
  • Valid driver's license and insurability
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
