Job description

As an Engineer I with the Product Domain team, you will independently complete product features that are well-tested and bug-free. You will create and maintain a services platform and data services ingesting, enriching, and presenting product data for use by Best Buy eCommerce and enterprise systems.  Cross-functional team members contribute to all aspects of software development and delivery.  We are an eXtreme Programming (XP) development team that uses Test-Drive Devlopment (TDD), pair programming, JVM based languages, and Spring.  We are highly collaborative and are committed to agility, code simplicity, and consistent high quality.
In this role, you'll primarily work virtually from home or another nonBest Buy location. However, you must live within a drivable distance to our corporate campus in Richfield, Minnesota. The specific work arrangements vary by role and team, and the recruiter or hiring manager will provide additional details during the hiring process.
What you'll do  
  • Deliver code features, system components or platforms from start to finish. 
  • Build and enhance internal libraries, tools, and processes to improve development efficiency and scalability. 
  • Share best practices, mentor peers and foster professional growth across engineering team. 
  • Ensure quality delivery of features and systems.  
  • Communicate effectively both verbally and written with various business partners.  
  • Partner with team-specific stakeholders to mitigate risk within the team and with external associates.  
  • Participate in production tirage and support.  
  • Improving knowledge and understanding of core concepts. 
Basic qualifications 
  • 1 or more years of relevant experience with a Bachelor's degree, Associate's degree or Coding Bootcamp/Code School OR equivalent relevant professional experience
  • 1 or more years of Enterprise Software Engineering experience at scale
  • 1 or more years of experience using object-oriented principles in a Java Virtual Machine (JVM) based language like Java, Groovy, or Kotlin
  • 6 or more months of experience using Git
  • 6 or more months of experience building applications using Spring Framework or Spring Boot.
 Preferred qualifications
  • Experience working in a Test Drive Development (TDD) environment
  • Strong willingness to participate in pair programming
  • Experience with Python
  • Experience with GCP
  • Experience developing REST APIs and microservices
  • Experience building and enhancing user interfaces using Angular, React, or similar frameworks.
  • Experience with NoSQL data stores such as Cassandra and/or Redis
  • Ability to triage and manage complex, production issues 
  • Experience building highly scalable and performing applications
