Job description

Summary

The Assistant Project Manager will support the Construction Services Division by assisting Project Managers with the day-to-day coordination, tracking, and execution of construction projects. This role is focused on project organization, documentation, schedule tracking, and coordination with DOTD, contractors, inspectors, and internal staff. The position is ideal for candidates with prior LaDOTD or DOTD-style construction project experience who are looking to contribute in a project management support role. An Engineer Intern (EI) or Professional Engineer (PE) license is not required.

Roles & Responsibilities

· Assist Project Managers in coordinating day-to-day construction project activities.

· Track project schedules, action items, deliverables, and key milestones.

· Maintain project logs and trackers, including RFIs, submittals, change orders, and pay applications.

· Assist with preparation, review, and organization of DOTD-related documentation and correspondence.

· Prepare meeting agendas, record meeting minutes, and track follow-up items.

· Support communication and coordination between DOTD, owners, contractors, inspection staff, and internal project teams.

· Assist with development of project status reports and internal dashboards.

· Support billing and invoice documentation by compiling required backup information.

· Attend project and construction meetings as needed.

· Perform other related duties as assigned to support Construction Services project delivery.

Job Requirements

· High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree preferred.

· Prior experience working with LaDOTD or on DOTD-funded transportation or infrastructure projects strongly preferred.

· Experience supporting construction projects, project managers, inspectors, or engineers.

· Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

· Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook); familiarity with project tracking or construction management software is a plus.

· Familiarity with Headlight/Procore, or equivalent construction software, preferred.

· Detail-oriented with strong follow-up and documentation skills.

Work Environment

· Combination of field and office work environments. Regular exposure to all types of weather conditions on field assignments.

· Ability to sit and work at computer workstation for extended periods.

· Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
