Job description

12th February, 2026
Our client, a national specialty contractor focused on commercial construction, is seeking an Associate Project Manager to join their Kansas City branch. This entry-level role is part of a structured training program designed to develop future project management leaders within the branch, providing exposure to both operational and financial aspects of specialty construction management.
You'll support commercial specialty construction projects focused on mechanical insulation, firestop systems, and related scopes, gaining hands-on experience in both field execution and project cost tracking. This position is open due to company growth and long-term succession planning.
In this role, you'll split your time between visiting commercial construction jobsites within a 90-mile radius of Kansas City and working in the office tracking labor productivity, job costs, and project progress within the company's systems. While onsite, you'll walk active projects with field leadership, review drawings against installed work, assess percent complete, identify scope changes or manpower gaps, and document issues that may impact schedule or cost. Back in the office, you'll translate those observations into updated cost-to-complete projections and job status reports to support accurate financial tracking and decision-making.
If you're looking to build a long-term career in construction management-whether you're a recent Construction Management graduate or a field professional ready to transition into an office-based project role-we encourage you to apply.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist with breaking projects into work packages and cost codes prior to project start
  • Prepare job control and cost performance reports for branch leadership
  • Set up and maintain job information in accounting and project management systems
  • Visit active jobsites to monitor progress, walk projects with field leadership, and collaborate with Construction Managers
  • Read construction drawings and perform reverse takeoffs to quantify completed scope
  • Track labor productivity and identify potential cost overruns or manpower gaps
  • Update estimated cost-to-complete projections on open projects
  • Support change order pricing, tracking, and documentation
  • Assist Project Managers with scheduling coordination, material tracking, and subcontractor communication
  • Participate in client meetings and internal project reviews as experience develops
  • Support billing preparation and project documentation management
  • Apply safety best practices while working in active construction environments

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field
  • Or, a High school diploma (or equivalent) with field experience in mechanical insulation, mechanical construction, or a related trade, and an interest in transitioning into a project management role
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across field and office teams
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
  • Ability to travel frequently to jobsites within a 90-mile radius of Kansas City

Salary: $65,000 base + annual bonus
Location: Kansas City, MO
Travel: Frequent travel within a 90-mile radius of Kansas City
Benefits: Milage/Car Allowance, Medical, Dental, Vision, 401(k) with match, PTO, Life and AD&D, Short- and Long-Term Disability, annual performance review, and structured mentorship program.
This role is designed for long-term growth, with a clear path toward Project Manager responsibilities as experience develops. Mileage reimbursement is provided.
