Overview
Tektronix is looking for a customer-focused Field Applications Engineer to join our Sales organization in North America.
This position is suitable for an entry-level engineer who has gone through our training program in the Technical Support Center and is looking to begin his or her technical sales career in a fast-paced technology company.
Field Applications Engineers provide technical expertise and solutions to customers across a wide range of cutting-edge industries. Your primary mission is to engage with customers throughout the sales cycle, ensuring that they are equipped with the right tools to achieve their objectives. This is your chance to make a tangible impact in a dynamic environment, working alongside the sales team to drive customer success and innovation.
Responsibilities
As a Field Applications Engineer, you will:
  • Serve as the technical expert, supporting pre-sales activities such as product demonstrations, technical presentations, and solution development
  • Collaborate closely with sales teams to understand customer requirements, identify technical solutions, and assist in closing deals
  • Provide post-sales technical support, ensuring customer satisfaction and successful implementation of test and measurement solutions
  • Engage directly with customers to solve technical challenges, offering tailored recommendations and guidance based on your in-depth product knowledge
  • Participate in customer training, workshops, and seminars to showcase best practices and help customers optimize the use of their equipment
  • Act as a liaison between customers and internal teams, providing feedback to drive product development and enhancements
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in test and measurement technologies and relevant industry trends

Technical Support Training
(6-12 months, based in Beaverton, OR)
To ensure success in this role, the selected candidate will first spend 6-12 months in the Technical Support Center (TSC), where they will gain hands-on experience with Tektronix and Keithley products, customer applications, and troubleshooting techniques. After completing this immersive training, the individual will relocate into a sales region.
  • Work as an Applications Engineer in the Technical Support Center
  • Develop expertise in oscilloscopes, signal generators, spectrum analyzers, and other test and measurement instruments
  • Provide pre- and post-sales technical support to engineers at leading technology companies
  • Assist customers in solving complex test challenges, troubleshooting equipment issues, and optimizing measurement setups
  • Collaborate with Field Application Engineers (FAEs), Sales Teams, Product, and Engineering Teams to deliver effective solutions
  • Create technical content, such as application notes, training videos, and knowledge base articles
  • Gain hands-on experience with customer use cases, preparing for the transition into a sales-focused role

Qualifications
This position supports our Tektronix Product Line products and related applications via direct interaction with our internal and external customers, in an energized and team-centric work environment. Initially working with a wide array of customer experiences in the Technical Support Center will provide ample preparation for growth into advanced roles within the company.
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, Physics, Computer Engineering or equivalent
  • Demonstrable understanding/experience in using Oscilloscopes, Signal Generators, Source Meters, DMMs, or Spectrum Analyzers
  • Engineering experience in basic test and measurement equipment
  • Laboratory, R&D, or industrial test and measurement experience preferred, including university laboratory exercises and projects focused on signal-oriented test and measurement
  • Programming experience to include expertise with at least one high-level language (Python, C-sharp, VB, Labview, etc.), with broader programming experience, particularly experience closely related to instrumentation control and measurement applications is desired. MS Office suite understanding required
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills that foster high-value relationships with both customers and the extended Tektronix Team. Exhibits above average ability to communicate technical concepts and obtain information indirectly (Phone, e-mail, etc.) and possesses detail-orientation needed to track multiple, complex customer interactions quickly and accurately
  • Driven by technical curiosity and collaborative problem solving
  • A passion for teamwork and strong desire for learning other skills
