The Associate Transmission System Operator is an entry level position for the Transmission System Operator classification. Provides the incumbent with the experience and training necessary to meet the requirements to advance to the level of Transmission System Operator

PRIMARY DUTIES:
Become knowledgeable of the generation, transmission, and sub-transmission system components, nomenclature, and general operating procedures as well as the switching and tagging procedures outlined in the appropriate Participant directives. Has limited accountability and authority commensurate with the abilities and experience as defined in the position description titled Transmission System Operator. Any duties performed must be done under the guidance of the Transmission System Operator.
EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Education: An associate's degree in electrical engineering technology, or two years of formal technical training beyond high school or the equivalent.

  • Experience: Four years of related experience, including work in generating stations, electrical maintenance, power system protection, and control, electrical system line work, or power system dispatching.

  • Technical Skills:
    Ability to analyze information, determine relevant facts, prioritize actions and make decisions accordingly.
    Ability to communicate and work effectively with people at various levels of the organization in a clear, concise, and professional manner.
    Mathematical reasoning ability and ability to work with computer-based applications to perform computational/analytical type work.
    Ability to handle increasingly complex training assignments including the performance of varied tasks designed to provide experience and familiarization with system operations while on a rotating shift.

  • Contacts: CONVEX participant Transmission process groups, NU Utility Groups, Corporate Center, NPCC, ISO-NE, and NEPOOL/RTO Operating Committees, Northeast Transmission Owners, utility industry groups, Distribution Asset management, and transmission customers.

  • Challenges:
    Maximize transmission reliability and availability, minimize congestion, ability to thoroughly understand and apply operating procedures and guidelines.
    Ability to thoroughly understand and interpret local flow tools and applications.
