Job description

About the Role

Paperless Parts is looking for a motivated and curious Platform Engineer I to join our growing team. You'll be an active member of the team taking our SaaS platform to manufacturing shops. As a Platform Engineer I, you will help build and maintain a platform that is scalable, secure, and resilient. From day one, you'll contribute directly to our platform by taking ownership of well-defined tasks and projects, working alongside senior engineers who will review your work and guide your growth. You will play a crucial part in supporting the automation and tooling that makes our entire engineering team more efficient.

This is an entry-level position on our engineering career pathway. You'll participate fully in the life of the team - joining sprint ceremonies, completing assigned sprint work, and growing into the on-call rotation - while building the foundation to advance toward Platform Engineer II and beyond. This role is perfect for early-career engineers who are passionate about cloud technologies and eager to develop their skills in a collaborative environment.

Why You'll Love Working Here
  • Customer-Centric Focus: We put our customers at the center of everything we do. Your work will directly contribute to their success.
  • Meaningful Challenges: We enable critical industries like medical devices, aerospace, and defense, which require robust, secure, and scalable solutions.
  • Collaborative and Inclusive Culture: Our culture emphasizes collaboration, continuous learning, and mutual respect. We believe that diverse teams build better products.
  • Learning Opportunities: You'll grow your skills through close mentorship from senior engineers and a clearly defined engineering career pathway.
  • Modern Technology: Gain hands-on experience with modern web application stacks, cloud technologies like AWS, and observability and CI/CD tools.
What You'll Work On
  • Develop and maintain infrastructure as code, including writing, testing, and deploying new Terraform modules to manage production cloud resources on AWS, including EC2, S3, IAM, and VPC
  • Enhance our CI/CD pipelines using industry-standard tools like Jenkins
  • Build new dashboards and set up monitoring with Datadog to ensure the health and performance of key applications.
  • Write and maintain automation scripts in Python or Bash to streamline routine operational tasks.
  • Work with containerization technologies and concepts using Docker
  • Use AI-assisted coding tools as part of your everyday workflow to write, test, and review code more effectively
  • Participate in sprint ceremonies and deliver assigned sprint work, with code reviewed and supported by senior engineers
  • Join the team's on-call rotation and learn to respond to alerts as you grow into the role
What You'll Bring
  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 0-1 years of professional experience in software, platform, or DevOps engineering; internship or co-op experience counts.
  • Working knowledge of a programming or scripting language, with Python as a plus.
  • Basic understanding of and comfort with Linux/Unix command-line tools.
  • Familiarity with modern infrastructure tools, including cloud providers (e.g., AWS, Azure, or GCP), containerization (e.g., Docker), infrastructure as code (e.g., Terraform), and CI/CD (e.g., Jenkins).
  • A demonstrated, passionate desire to learn about cloud computing, DevOps principles, and infrastructure automation.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and a collaborative mindset - you ask clarifying questions and contribute to team discussions.
  • A strong sense of reliability and ownership of your assigned work, with enthusiasm for learning and applying new technologies.
Why Join Us?
  • Real-World Impact: You will contribute to solutions that empower critical industries and drive innovation.
  • Learning and Development: You will work with experienced professionals who will support your growth along a defined engineering career pathway.
  • Supportive Culture: You will join a team that values your contributions and invests in your success.

If you're an ambitious early-career engineer eager to apply your knowledge of cloud infrastructure, gain hands-on experience, and build your career in platform engineering, we'd love to hear from you!
