Description
SUMMARY OBJECTIVE OF THE JOB:
The Application Engineer Associate is responsible for supporting customers, as well as other members of the sales team, by providing technical support and resolving technical issues to maximize design win success. The Application Engineer Associate is expected to obtain knowledge on ball bearings and precision mechanical products and apply learned knowledge on related products, business processes, and sales practices.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Business Development - In conjunction with the Account Managers, support efforts to identify and penetrate new accounts in target markets, qualify new accounts and opportunities, and secure new business.
  • Relationship Development/Communications - External - Visit customers regularly, either independently or with Account Managers, for interactive customer engineering discussions.
  • Design Recommendations - Understand customer's application and technical requirements, and make appropriate design recommendations, which includes specifying optimal NMB products.
  • Product Development - Lead the development of custom motor bearing solutions and coordinate technical activities between customer engineering and international NMB engineering. Track customer schedules and set realistic expectations for NMB deliverables. Ensure successful development through final approval and transition into production.
  • Sample Evaluation - Manage sample development and evaluation by ensuring that samples meeting customer requirements are delivered on time, collect results from customer evaluation in a timely manner, and feedback to NMB engineering. Coordinate failure analysis investigation of samples and implement design improvements as necessary.
  • Product Documentation - Issue product documentation (technical drawings, specifications, data sheets, catalogs) as required.
  • Reporting Communications Internal/External - Provide timely and frequent written and verbal reporting on customer interaction and development status for opportunities (including timely reporting in SalesForce.com).
  • Technical Research & Reporting - Gather information on customer technical roadmaps and general industry technical trends, consolidate and analyze information, and report summary information and recommendations to product management on a timely and regular basis.
  • Travel - Travel required up to 20% ; majority will be domestic with occasional international travel.
  • Other - Perform other duties as related to the job function.

JOB QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS/COMPETENCIES:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering field required.
  • Entry level or less than 3 years of general work experience.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and Power Point) is required; Basic 3D modeling (especially SolidWorks), is preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication/presentation skills are required
  • Business-level speaking is a plus in one of the following languages depending on business needs:
    • Japanese
    • Spanish
  • Fluency in reading and writing is a plus in one of the following languages depending on business needs:
    • Japanese
    • Spanish

SUPERVISORY REQUIREMENTS:
No Supervisory qualifications are required for this position.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
A normal amount of sitting and standing, average mobility to move around an office, and ability to conduct a normal amount of work on a computer.
SALARY
At NMB, the pay band for this role is between $64,039.00 and $96,059.00 annually, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. The base pay is a part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range of the pay band process.
