Job description

The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS) is seeking a Business Intelligence Analyst

Primary duties are to develop data visualizations, extracts and transforms to assist in strategic and operational decision making by administration, faculty and staff in the College of Liberal arts and Sciences, utilizing institutional and localized data sources in a sustainable fashion. Create documentation for use by end users, technical support and data stewards. Apply best practices in data visualization and data design. Analyze data used in solutions and verify as appropriate and correct. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with internal customers/ stakeholders to define and document data, analytics and modeling requirements.  
  • Utilize and understand the data warehouse, such as data schemas that include General Ledger (GL), HRIS and MAUI tables.
  • Explore and utilize campus data solutions, such as DSP's research data, through SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS) and comparable technologies.
  • Collaborate with other subject matter/data experts and stewards in the college and institution to advance knowledge  
  • Problem solve, investigate and explain data discrepancies.

Education Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required. 

Required Qualifications:

  • Academic or Professional related experience designing, developing and maintaining data driven solutions in a secure, professional environment.
  • Basic knowledge of relational database concepts, data modeling, and data governance principles.  Demonstrated experience working with a common relational database platform.
  • Experience using data visualization and reporting tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, SSRS, or similar).
  • Understanding of data quality assurance, data validation, and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and accurately, both orally and in writing, with technical and non-technical staff. 

Desired Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working in a higher education environment.
  • Experience with HR, finance, student, research, or enterprise administrative data.
  • Familiarity with solution development best practices such as source code control, issue tracking, accessibility compliance and testing.
  • Experience with Extract, Transform and Load technologies such as SSIS or Fabric.
  • Experience documenting databases and dataflows, along with their related properties.
