Role Summary
The Product Owner supports the business definition, prioritization, and execution of product initiatives within their assigned product line. This is an entry-level, business-facing product role focused on learning and supporting core product management practices: gathering requirements, supporting roadmap and backlog activities, coordinating with cross-functional teams, and helping translate business and client needs into clear requirements. The role is designed to be generic across product lines - the specific product, technology, and domain will vary by team, but the core responsibilities and skills below apply broadly across Genpact's R&D product organization. The Product Owner works closely with a Product Lead or Product Manager and gains exposure to the full product lifecycle, from requirement gathering through release and go-to-market support.
Responsibilities
Product Support & Requirements
• Support the Product Lead/Manager in gathering, documenting, and clarifying business requirements from stakeholders, clients, and internal teams.
• Help translate business needs into clear, actionable user stories, requirement documents, or backlog items for engineering and design teams.
• Assist in maintaining and prioritizing the product backlog under the guidance of the Product Lead.
• Support basic competitive and market research to inform product decisions.
Cross-Functional Coordination
• Participate in product, roadmap, and stand-up meetings, taking notes and following up on action items.
• Coordinate with Sales, Pre-Sales, Client Success, and Business Operations to gather feedback and support go-to-market activities.
• Help prepare materials for product reviews, leadership syncs, and quarterly business reviews.
• Build working relationships across Engineering, Design, Business Operations, and Sales to understand how requirements move through to delivery.
Reporting & Continuous Learning
• Track product metrics/KPIs (e.g., adoption, usage, defect trends).
• Develop foundational product management skills through mentorship from senior product staff, with a growth path toward a Product Owner/Product Manager role.
Qualifications We Seek in You
1. Familiarity with product management, business analysis, consulting, or a related business/technical role (internships count).
2. Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
3. Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to document requirements clearly and summarize discussions for stakeholders.
4. Basic understanding of the product lifecycle (requirements, design, build, release, feedback).
5. Comfort working with cross-functional teams (Engineering, Design, Sales) in a fast-paced environment.
6. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
1. Exposure to Agile/Scrum ways of working (backlog grooming, sprint planning, stand-ups).
2. Familiarity with product/collaboration tools (e.g., Jira, Confluence, Figma, or similar).
3. Prior exposure to AI/automation, SaaS, or enterprise software products is a plus, but not required.
