What is an entry level AI agent developer?

Entry Level AI Agent Developers are professionals who assist in designing, building, and maintaining artificial intelligence agents, such as chatbots or virtual assistants, often under the supervision of more experienced engineers. They typically work with programming languages like Python and use machine learning frameworks to help create intelligent systems that can interact with users or perform tasks autonomously. These roles are suited for those new to the field and often require a foundational understanding of AI concepts, basic coding skills, and a willingness to learn advanced topics on the job.

As an Entry Level AI Agent Developer, you can expect to work on tasks such as building and fine-tuning conversational AI agents, assisting with data preprocessing, and implementing basic machine learning models under the guidance of senior engineers. You’ll likely contribute to updating or troubleshooting existing AI agents, performing code reviews, and writing test cases. Collaboration with data scientists, UX designers, and product managers is common, giving you exposure to the full development lifecycle and valuable opportunities to learn from experienced colleagues.

Job description

About Simple
Simple AI is building state of the art voice AI agents for enterprise. Our realistic agents help iconic businesses like Doordash, xAI, and Omaha Steaks handle all kinds of phone operations, from customer support to order intake to lead qualifications. We are growing revenue like crazy and looking to hire AI Agent Engineers to help us stay afloat of current customer demand and also build out systems for the future. We are very excited about the potential for AI to change the world, and work out of our SF based office.
Simple AI raised $14M from world-class investors and operators like Y Combinator, First Harmonic, Massive Tech Ventures, Michael Seibel, Jared Friedman, Alexandr Wang, Matt Van Horn, Suhail Doshi, and Scott Wu.
The Team
The founders (Catheryn and Zach) met while running software teams at YC, where they shipped tons of new products for YC founders, including YC's co-founder matching site. Cat previously worked at Instagram and Facebook and earned degrees in math and computer science at MIT. Zach previously studied computer science and statistics at U Chicago and led software at PEAK6. We have grown into a strong team of 20+ and are continuing to scale quickly.
About the Role
We are looking for an AI Agent Engineer to work directly with customers and help turn Simple's voice AI platform into production-ready agents for each business.
This is a highly technical and highly customer-facing role. You will work across pre-sales and post-sales: building custom demos for prospective customers, understanding customer workflows, deploying agents, debugging edge cases, improving performance, and turning customer feedback into product improvements.
Every customer has different call flows, systems, products, policies, and edge cases. You will be responsible for understanding those details and making sure the agent works reliably in the real world. This role is a good fit for someone who wants to code, talk to customers, move fast, and be close to the business impact of what they build.
What We Offer
  • Competitive salary & meaningful equity
  • Employee-friendly equity terms
  • An office located in SF
  • Health, dental & vision insurance
  • Free lunch & dinner at the office
  • Late night Ubers
  • Regular team events & offsites
What You'll Need
  • 1-3 years of relevant work experience.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and enthusiasm for addressing technical challenges.
  • A customer-first mindset with strong communication skills and interest in product design and prioritization.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently.
  • Passion about learning and keeping up with latest AI advancements.

Nice To Have
  • Previous experience with prompt engineering or working with AI/LLM-based platforms.
  • Experience with TypeScript, React, Python, Ruby on Rails, PostgreSQL, or AWS.

If you are excited to work directly with customers and build AI agents that run in production, we would love to chat.
