What is an enterprise infrastructure engineer?

Enterprise Infrastructure Engineers are IT professionals responsible for designing, implementing, managing, and maintaining the foundational technology systems within large organizations. They ensure that network, server, storage, and cloud infrastructure are secure, reliable, and optimized for performance. Their work supports critical business operations by enabling seamless connectivity, data management, and scalability across the company's technology environment. These engineers often collaborate with other IT teams to troubleshoot issues, upgrade systems, and plan for future growth.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an enterprise infrastructure engineer?

To thrive as an Enterprise Infrastructure Engineer, you need a deep understanding of networking, server administration, virtualization, and systems integration, typically supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with technologies such as VMware, Cisco networking equipment, cloud platforms (like AWS or Azure), and certifications like CCNA, MCSE, or CompTIA Network+ are highly valued. Strong problem-solving abilities, effective communication, and project management skills help you excel in cross-functional teams and adapt to evolving infrastructure needs. These competencies ensure reliable, secure, and scalable IT environments that support organizational growth and operational continuity.

What are some common challenges faced by enterprise infrastructure engineers, and how can they be addressed?

Enterprise Infrastructure Engineers often encounter challenges such as managing complex, legacy systems alongside new technologies, ensuring high system availability, and maintaining robust security protocols. These issues require strong troubleshooting skills, continuous learning, and effective communication with cross-functional teams. Staying updated with industry best practices, participating in regular training, and collaborating with network administrators, security specialists, and application developers can help overcome these challenges and ensure smooth infrastructure operations.

  • Influence long-term technical direction and provide strategic input on how infrastructure evolves to meet business needs
  • Ensure observability and proactive system monitoring across all platforms

What you'll get
You'll join a culture of collaboration and excellence, surrounded by curious thinkers and creative problem-solvers. Motivated by a passion for continuous improvement, you'll thrive in a supportive, high-performing environment alongside talented colleagues, collectively tackling some of the toughest challenges in the financial markets.

  • Highly competitive compensation package including performance-based bonus structure
  • 401(k) match up to 50%
  • Comprehensive health, mental, dental, vision, disability, and life coverage
  • 25 paid vacation days alongside market holidays
  • Extensive office perks, including breakfast, lunch and snacks, regular social events, clubs, sporting leagues and more

Who you are
  • Proven leadership experience managing or mentoring technical teams (minimum 3+ years in a lead capacity)
  • Strong technical background in infrastructure engineering
  • Deep hands-on experience with, or a willingness to learn and dive deep into:
    • Python, PowerShell, or Terraform (HCL)
    • Virtualization infrastructure
    • Windows Server management & debugging
    • NetApp or similar enterprise storage systems
  • Solid understanding of Active Directory, DNS, and core networking concepts
  • Experience with observability stacks (e.g., SCOM, Telegraf/Influx/Grafana, Prometheus)
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to influence and drive decisions, with a high degree of ownership
  • Strong listener who creates space for diverse views while providing technical direction
