High School ENL Teacher (Grades 9–12) – Job Description

Position Summary
The High School ENL (English as a New Language) Teacher provides instruction and support for students whose first language is not English. The teacher develops English proficiency in reading, writing, listening, and speaking, while helping students succeed academically across core subjects and adapt to the U.S. school system.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement ENL lessons aligned with state standards and district curriculum for grades 9–12.

  • Teach English language skills, including grammar, vocabulary, reading comprehension, writing, listening, and speaking.

  • Provide support and scaffolding for students in core subjects (Math, Science, Social Studies, and ELA) as needed.

  • Assess English language proficiency and academic progress using formative and summative assessments.

  • Differentiate instruction to meet students’ language levels, learning needs, and cultural backgrounds.

  • Foster a supportive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages participation and confidence in English.

  • Monitor student progress and provide regular feedback to students, parents/guardians, and academic teams.

  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, counselors, and administrators to support ENL students’ academic success.

  • Integrate technology and digital resources to enhance English language instruction.
