High School English IV Teacher

Location: UME Preparatory Academy
Reports To: Campus Principal

Position Summary

The High School English IV Teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction aligned to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for English Language Arts and Reading. This role focuses on preparing 12th-grade students for college and career readiness through rigorous, engaging, and standards-based instruction.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver daily instruction aligned to TEKS for English IV
  • Develop lesson plans that promote critical thinking, writing, reading comprehension, and analytical skills
  • Prepare students for postsecondary success, including college readiness and workforce communication skills
  • Utilize a variety of instructional strategies to meet diverse student needs
  • Assess student progress regularly and adjust instruction accordingly
  • Maintain accurate records of student performance, attendance, and grades in Skyward
  • Establish and maintain a positive, structured classroom environment
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff
  • Participate in professional development, staff meetings, and campus initiatives
  • Support school-wide goals and uphold the mission and values of UME Preparatory Academy

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
  • Valid Texas Teaching Certification in English Language Arts and Reading (Grades 712) or equivalent content-area certification in compliance with TEA requirements
  • Demonstrated knowledge of TEKS and ability to align instruction accordingly
  • Strong classroom management and organizational skills
