Position Overview

Prep Academy Tutors of Northern Los Angeles is seeking qualified, dedicated, and compassionate High School English Teachers and Tutors to provide personalized, one-on-one academic support to students in Grades 912 throughout the Northern Los Angeles area.

Our educators help students strengthen their reading comprehension, literary analysis, academic writing, grammar, vocabulary, and communication skills while building the confidence needed for success in high school and beyond. We are looking for professionals who are passionate about helping students excel through individualized instruction tailored to each student's unique learning needs and academic goals.

This is an excellent opportunity for certified English teachers, experienced educators, and qualified tutors who enjoy making a meaningful impact outside of the traditional classroom.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide one-on-one tutoring for high school students (Grades 912) in English Language Arts
  • Support students in literature, reading comprehension, academic and creative writing, grammar, vocabulary, and composition
  • Assist with homework, essay writing, study skills, executive functioning, and test preparation, including SAT/ACT verbal sections when appropriate
  • Develop individualized learning plans based on each student's needs and academic goals
  • Monitor student progress and provide regular updates to families
  • Foster a positive, engaging, and supportive learning environment
  • Travel to students' homes throughout the Northern Los Angeles area
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in English, English Education, Literature, or a related field required; teaching credential or advanced degree preferred
  • Valid California teaching credential or equivalent is highly preferred
  • Experience teaching or tutoring high school English students
  • Strong knowledge of high school English curriculum, literature, writing instruction, and grammar
  • Ability to differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
  • Reliable transportation
  • Authorized to work in the United States

Minimum Requirements

Qualified applicants must hold a bachelor's degree and meet at least one of the following criteria:

  • Hold a valid California teaching credential or equivalent
  • Be a current student teacher pursuing a teaching credential
  • Have two or more years of experience teaching high school English in a public, private, or charter school
  • Have significant experience providing one-on-one or small-group tutoring in high school English, literature, or writing
  • Be a graduate student in English, Education, Literature, or a related field with teaching or instructional experience
