What You'd Be Doing
  • Review, understand, develop, and check Process Flow Diagrams (PFD) and Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID's).
  • Review, understand, and check ortho-graphics, isometrics, bill of materials, line lists, valve lists, and tie-in lists for piping design projects (with limited supervision by senior engineers.) Familiarity with piping design in process environments is preferred.
  • Ability to complete engineering calculations with limited supervision by senior engineers. Take ownership and responsibility of items within their scope and coordinate with other disciplines where required.

Calculations include:
  • Hydraulic calculations to size pumps and piping, determine NPSH, etc.
  • Heat loss calculations for piping, tanks, and other equipment.
  • Control valve, orifice plate, flow meter, and other instrumentation preliminary sizing

Understand pumping, piping, air and liquid flow and distribution systems
• Application of relevant codes such as:
  • ASME B31.3, B31.4
  • API 650, 653 and other related standards.
  • NFPA 11, 30 and other related standards.
  • IEEE and ISA standards for instrumentation specification.

  • Work with senior engineers to create capital project cost estimates and schedules.
  • Review, understand, develop, and check equipment and instrument datasheets. Take ownership and responsibility of items within their scope and coordinate with other disciplines where required.
  • Evaluate vendor's bids and drawings to ensure compliance with specifications and requirements of the project.
  • Work with vendors to obtain quotes and data sheets for various equipment (control valves, pumps, instrumentation, tank, heat exchangers, etc.) Work with senior engineers to review and specify the appropriate equipment.
  • Ability to effectively interact on a basic technical level with other engineering disciplines and understand how their work impacts the overall project. Regular contact is expected with other disciplines (at least weekly by phone or in-person).
  • Ability to review electrical, civil and structural drawings to check for interferences with the mechanical drawings.
  • Ability to travel to industrial sites to gather information for projects and / or attend in person meeting.

What Makes You a Good Candidate for This Position
  • 2-8 years experience in the completion of projects for industrial clients. Prefer experience in project development from concept through completion.
  • BSME or BSChemE required from an ABET accredited institution.
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) registration desired. Must be working towards or willing to obtain PE.
  • Experience in the development and review of Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) is required.
  • Experience with specifying heavy industrial equipment like pumps, tanks, valves, and instruments is desired.
  • Experience with specifying instruments and control valves is required.
  • Experience with reading wiring diagrams and I/O lists is preferred.
  • Ability to travel throughout the Western United States. Some national travel will also be required. (Travel: approximately 10 - 25%)
  • Strong background in a variety of engineering skills is preferred.
  • Strong written & oral communication skills and use of tools such as MS Outlook, Word and Excel.
  • Previous experience with PDF markup software such as Bluebeam Revu or Adobe Acrobat is desired.
  • Must be energetic, self-motivated, and be able to work independently.
  • Must be motivated to seek continuous improvement.
  • Strong leadership skills and problem resolution skills are a plus.
  • Ability and willingness to be the primary customer technical liaison on smaller projects.
  • Ability to work within a team of engineers & designers to meet customer objectives.

Salary Range: $85,000 to $110,000 depending on relevant experience
