Job description

Summary:

We are looking for a seasoned Senior Engineering Manager to lead a web and mobile engineering team responsible for delivering key customer experiences. The ideal candidate will bring a practical understanding of customer-facing software and help translate customer and business goals into strong technical execution. They will be an active partner with Product, Design, and Quality leaders to help clarify trade-offs and guide the team toward solutions that are scalable, reliable, measurable, and valuable to customers.

This leader will raise the technical bar for the team by staying close to the codebase through code reviews and occasional direct contribution, by engaging knowledgeably with engineers on architecture and long-term platform health, and by setting ambitious targets for performance, quality, and developer productivity. They will coach engineers across a range of experience levels, create clarity in ambiguous situations, and build a high-performing team culture grounded in ownership, learning, collaboration, and strong execution.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and mentor a high-performing team of approximately 7 front end engineers, including providing clear growth paths through goal setting, regular 1:1s, feedback, performance management, rewards, and recognition
  • Lead the development and delivery of customer-facing web and mobile experiences, balancing product outcomes, engineering excellence, delivery predictability, and team health
  • Work closely with cross-functional partners to understand customer problems and intended outcomes, contributing an engineering perspective to trade-off discussions, keeping the team oriented around solutions that truly work for customers, and instituting appropriate observability and instrumentation
  • Own project and delivery management for the team, including roadmap alignment, resource planning, schedule tracking, release planning, risk management, and proactive escalation of gaps or trade-offs
  • Partner with Design, Product, and Engineering leaders to ensure web and mobile apps meet functional requirements and non-functional expectations for performance, scalability, reliability, security, accessibility, and maintainability
  • Provide technical leadership and oversight by engaging knowledgeably with engineers on application architecture, library and framework updates, build systems, CI/CD improvements, release processes, testing strategy, performance optimization, and developer productivity
  • Ensure the engineering team follows best practices such as designing for reuse, automated testing, code quality, secure development, operational readiness, effective collaboration across platform teams, and thoughtful adoption of AI-enabled tools

Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of experience in the software industry, with 4+ years in engineering leadership, including demonstrated ownership of technical delivery and team development
  • Strong people-management skills and instincts, with a track record of building, coaching, and retaining high-performing engineering teams
  • Strong technical depth in modern web application development, including React/Redux
  • Hands on experience with mobile development (React Native and/or native iOS/Android) is a strong plus.
  • Good understanding of cloud technologies and system design.
  • Demonstrated ability to partner effectively with Product Management and Design on customer problems, product discovery, requirements, trade-offs, success metrics, and post-launch learning
  • Strong product judgment and customer empathy, with the ability to understand customer workflows, translate customer pain points into engineering context, and keep teams oriented around measurable outcomes
  • Solid engineering project management capabilities, especially roadmap planning, execution, dependency management, release planning, and risk communication
  • Experience developing and operating customer-facing applications, preferably at scale
  • BS/MS in Computer Science/Engineering or equivalent practical experience
