What is an engineering startup?

An Engineering Startup job involves working in a newly founded company focused on developing innovative technology or products. Engineers in startups often wear multiple hats, taking on tasks ranging from product design and prototyping to testing and deployment. Unlike larger companies, startups typically require employees to be adaptable, work in fast-paced environments, and contribute to various aspects of product development. This role can be highly rewarding, offering opportunities for hands-on experience, creativity, and rapid career growth.

What are some common challenges engineers face when working in a startup environment?

Engineers in startup environments often encounter challenges such as rapidly shifting priorities, resource constraints, and the need to wear multiple hats beyond their core technical role. You may be expected to iterate quickly on product designs, address unforeseen technical hurdles, and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams like product and marketing. Flexibility and a proactive mindset are essential, as the pace can be fast and the scope of work may change frequently. However, these challenges come with significant learning opportunities and the potential to make a visible impact on the company's success and direction.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the engineering startup position, and why are they important?

To thrive in an engineering startup, you need a robust understanding of engineering principles, problem-solving ability, and hands-on technical skills often supported by a degree in engineering or a related field. Familiarity with product development tools, prototyping platforms, and agile project management systems such as Jira or Trello is highly valuable. Exceptional adaptability, entrepreneurial drive, teamwork, and strong communication skills set standout contributors apart in this fast-paced environment. These skills and qualities are critical because startup teams must efficiently innovate, iterate, and launch solutions amidst constant change and limited resources.

Job description

About Safari AI
Safari AI's vision is to Automate Action of the leading companies in the physical economy, from Entertainment, Live Venues, QSR's, Retail and beyond. The company uses computer vision AI to Measure, Alert and provide AI-generated Recommendations at the operations of leading enterprises such as Merlin/Legoland, 7-11, Tanger Outlets, Charlotte Hornets, Tennessee Titans, and more.
Leadership & Culture
Safari AI is founded by Ali Vahabzadeh, who has a meaningful exit under his belt and has managed large, high-performing Go To Market and Engineering teams. The company is headquartered in Miami with the Engineering team co-located in Vancouver.
About You And How You Succeed At Safari AI
You're excited to build a product and invent a market that hasn't existed before. You read documentation first and are not afraid to ask for help when uncertain. You're looking to take ownership/run a singular project and take advantage of the freedom and culture an early stage startup can provide. You are looking to see through the fluff of the modern AI landscape and explore new ways of achieving measurable ROI. Enjoy a small team size ~10, project team of 1-3.
About the RoleWe are hiring our first GTM Engineering Lead to lead the development of AI agents for our Growth Marketing, Sales, Client Success and Partnership functions on the Go To Market team. They will work side-by-side in our Miami office with our GTM team on automating workflows and ultimately building the agents that can handle routine, then increasingly sophisticated tasks as well - if not better - than our staff. This position is in-office in Miami and reports directly to the Founder & CEO as it's strategic and critical for the company's growth and scaling efforts.
What you will be working on:
  • Convert AI-generated go-to-market tools and skills to distinct agents that help Safari AI scale outreach and accelerate deals, specifically: Growth, Sales, Client Success
  • Your agents will work across customer contexts: varying industries, use cases, and stages of the sales funnel, ensuring a consistent and engaging experience with our prospects and clients
  • Work with a growing team of sales, growth, and client success leaders to ship GTM experiments quickly and feed learnings back into the product roadmap
  • Design and maintain the systems, templates, and data pipelines that power outbound sequences, lead nurturing flows, and customer onboarding
  • Build and maintain AI-driven prospect research and account-scoring pipelines that surface high-fit venues (stadiums, theme parks, retail, cruise, ski) and enrich them with operational signals (camera count, footprint, parent org, tech stack)
  • Develop vertical-specific demo environments and ROI calculators that translate Safari AI's computer vision outputs (queue times, dwell, occupancy, conversion) into language and metrics each buyer persona cares about
  • Operate the outbound infrastructure stack - sending platform, CRM, enrichment, and reply-handling agents - and continuously tune deliverability, persona logic, and conversation state machines based on live performance data

Requirement for the Role
  • Experience building, deploying and using agents on a daily basis
  • Ability to design, implement, present, and operate independently without oversight
  • Experience with public cloud such as AWS
  • Comfortable wiring together modern GTM tooling (HubSpot, SmartLead/Instantly, Clay, Apollo, Zapier/n8n, Notion) and writing Python or TypeScript to glue systems together
  • Hands-on experience prompting and orchestrating LLM APIs (Claude, OpenAI) for production use cases - not just chat, but agents, classification, and structured output
  • Experience with SQL and data warehouse or relational DB's such as PostgreSQL, BigQuery, Snowflake
  • Self-motivated, critical thinking and enthusiastic in solving real-world problems
  • Good business insight and exceptional analytical skills

Nice to Have's
  • Early-stage startup experience
  • Exposure to B2B marketing and sales motions
  • Prior work building internal tools and dashboards that were actually adopted by a non-engineering team

What Safari AI Offers
  • An opportunity to shape an early-stage AI startup and revolutionize how enterprises automate decision-making in real time
  • Professional growth at a fast-growing, venture-funded startup with a proven founder and leadership team
  • Opportunities to work across different GTM segments and industries, broadening your skill set along the way
  • Daily peer engagement in a high-energy office setting
  • New hardware

Why bet on Computer Vision and Safari AI?
  1. Huge opportunity hiding in plain sight: leveraging already-installed cameras to automate and real-time action on operational data
  2. Already the market leader in enterprise CV by working with industry leaders with billions in revenue
  3. Large chasm between customer knowledge and market availability, i.e. customers don't know what is available in the market...yet.
  4. Early leader in computer vision; everyone is small and unbranded (i.e. no Amazon or Google in the room to compete with)
  5. Very modular, allowing Safari AI and its customers to invent whole new use cases on a regular basis
  6. Developed the tech and data pipelines over three years and invested several million dollars and is now ready to scale
