Job description

Job Overview

Librarian III with superior level of knowledge and expertise in collection development, research assistance and consultation, and instruction for science and engineering programs and departments. The position develops effective plans, workflows, and processes to provide resources or services in assigned areas that support the university’s mission and program objectives.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as an expert within the unit or department based on an abroad level of knowledge and skill. Provide leadership, mentoring, and coaching to other library staff in their area of expertise. May include supervision of library staff.
  • Stay apprised of new developments and trends in various operational areas to foster more effective delivery of resources or services.
  • Resolve issues based on knowledge and experience.
  • Lead or actively participate in collaborative department projects, lending expertise and analysis of issues and/or needs, and coordinate completion of assigned work. Identify and stay abreast of emerging educational technologies, research methods, open access trends, related e‑resource and bibliographic standards, and interoperability.
  • Establish relationships and communicate with a wide variety of internal and external customers.
  • Act as a subject matter expert for the department and the JH libraries, lending expertise to JH libraries’ special interest and other collaborative groups and efforts.
  • Represent JH libraries in public forums, including meetings, conferences, and collaborative initiatives.
  • Serve on library or institution‑wide committees or working groups.
  • Collaborate with peer groups regionally and nationally.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of resources in sciences and/or engineering.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the research life cycle in sciences and/or engineering.
  • Familiarity with scholarly communication issues.
  • Familiarity with the developing role of AI in science and/or engineering.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in library science or related field.
  • Five years of related experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
