Job description

Tampa Microwave is a leading manufacturer and supplier of Manpack & Fly Away satellite terminals designed and built for the expeditionary user community to guarantee communications connectivity in the most austere environments. Tampa Microwave primarily serves Federal and Department of Defense markets.

We are seeking to fill a Senior Engineering Project Manager position located in our Clearwater, FL location. This position reports to the Vice President, Engineering.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The role of the Engineering Project Manager is to plan, execute and provide support for assigned Engineering programs which focus on design and development of ground-based satellite communication (SATCOM) terminals, and components used therein. He / she performs these tasks in accordance with established deadlines and budgets. This process includes acquiring resources and coordinating the efforts of team members, suppliers and third-party contractors or consultants in order to deliver products according to plan.

  • Interacts with in-house Engineering talent to form a design team, to identify & maintain all work tasks, labor resources and schedule to complete the program within cost budget,
  • Effectively communicate project expectations to Engineering team members and stakeholders in a timely and clear fashion through regularly scheduled team meetings and daily incidental contact.
  • Define the project's objectives, interface with the customer and oversee quality control of products throughout their life cycle
  • Estimate Engineering resources and participants needed to achieve project goals. Draft and submit Engineering cost budget proposals and recommend subsequent cost budget changes where necessary. Develop periodic estimates-to-complete (ETC) for assigned programs. Chart actual spend rates and percentages against the cost budget to ascertain cost and schedule risk. Analyze variances to cost and schedule budgets. Implement corrective action, as required, to meet program and company objectives
  • Where required, negotiate with other department managers for the acquisition of required personnel from within the company, Determine and assess need for additional staff and / or technical consultants, and make the appropriate requests during project's development cycle,
  • Plan and schedule project timelines and milestones using appropriate tools. Track project milestones and deliverables. Identify and manage project dependencies and critical path. Determine the frequency and content of status reports from the project team, analyze results, and troubleshoot problem areas.
  • Proactively manage changes in project scope, identify potential crises, and devise contingency plans. Identify cost, schedule or technical risk. Develop and execute plans to mitigate that risk.
  • Coach, mentor, motivate and supervise project team members and contractors, and influence them to take positive action and accountability for their assigned work. Identify and resolve issues and conflicts within the project team
  • Build business relationships with customer personnel to ensure good communications and a continuing flow of new and follow-on business.
  • Conduct project postmortems and create a lesson learned' report in order to identify successful and unsuccessful project elements. Develop best practices and tools for project execution and management.
  • Provide support to business development, manufacturing and quality assurance personnel to support proposals, transition to manufacturing and sustaining production / post-delivery support.
  • Exhibit the following personal characteristics: superior communication skills, sound judgment effective listening techniques and incisive deductive reasoning ability.
  • Openly display a commitment to ethical business conduct and appropriate social behavior while representing TM on or off our premises.
  • Other duties as necessary

Qualifications

  • U.S. citizenship is required due to government contract and security clearance requirements.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret Level Security Clearance upon hire.
  • Bachelor of Science Degree from an accredited college or equivalent experience in a technical discipline required.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of experience as a Program Manager or Project Engineer for organizations engaged in design and manufacture of electronic products for the Department of Defense (DOD).
  • Significant experience in planning, bidding and executing contracts for military hardware and software systems is required.
  • Must be fluent with Microsoft Project software, Earned Value tracking,
  • Risk Analysis and Mitigation, Fluent in Microsoft Office programs is also necessary.
  • Define the project's objectives, interface with the customer and oversee quality control of products throughout their life cycle. The Program Manager can adjust to shifting priorities, demands and timelines by utilizing his / her analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Able to identify and select alternate parts in accordance with obsolescence management processes.
  • Utilize tools such as Silicon Expert, Windchill and Smart Sheets.
  • Minimum of (6) years in Engineering Development and Design.
  • Minimum of (6) years in New Product Development Cycle into Manufacturing.

  • PMP, Project Management
  • Graduate degree in Business Administration or Engineering and/or advanced courses in management, engineering or science subjects desirable
