Northrop Grumman Mission Systems (NGMS) Sector is seeking a Senior Director of Engineering with technical program leadership responsibility in Amherst, NY, Apopka, FL. and additionally Engineering Program Manager (EPM) responsibility across all MSTS sites (excluding Baltimore and Partner Sites). This leader will also be charted with driving the E&S MSTS division strategic priorities in alignment with partner organizations.
This role will be based in Rolling Meadows, IL., Annapolis, MD. area, or the greater Baltimore, MD. area.
The Director of Engineering will lead technical and management engineers across multiple disciplines (EPMs, Systems, Software, Hardware) who support a variety of programs in different life cycle stages. The director will manage departmental budgets, ensuring the team has the resources they require to be successful, while maintaining a cost competitive organization. A person in this position maintains cognizance over supported programs technical activities, ensures that supported programs are adhering to sound engineering processes in the development, production, test and sustainment of products for our customers and that the programs and products are compliant with company policy, procedures, and quality standards. This Director of Engineering will be instrumental in setting the path for the organization and supporting the strategic direction of the supported business areas.
The most significant tasks that may be performed within the scope of this role include:
- Program performance monitoring and support
- Ensuring and monitoring quality of work products
- Engineering process improvement, maintenance and enforcement
- Program task management and team leadership
- Mentoring, career development and training
- Maintenance of future staffing projections
- Staff management and administration
- Budget management
- Support to new business capture
- Responsible for the review and approval of project bids for the organization
- Independent technical reviews of major programs and R&D projects
- Development of NCTA project definition
- Thought leadership toward product innovations and business model innovations
This role will provide the technical and people leadership and functional oversight needed to establish and maintain a world class engineering organization across multiple locations. The role requires strong leadership and communication skills in addition to multi-discipline engineering understanding. This position is responsible for providing the people, processes, and tools to meet the current and future needs of the supported programs and technologies.
Basic Qualifications for Sr. Engineering Director:
- Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics or related technical fields with 14 years of experience; Master's degree with 12 years of experience; PhD with 10 years of experience
- 10 years of technical experience in any combination of Hardware, Systems,
Software/Firmware engineering disciplines accompanied by high proficiency in technical problem solving to include decomposition, root cause analysis, solution development, implementation and monitoring
-10 years of professional experience in the defense or aerospace industries
- 5 years previous experience working in a technical role with experience across multiple program phases
- Demonstrated experience successfully managing people and leading large, diverse technical teams
- Demonstrated knowledge of engineering process and tailoring
- Working knowledge of Staffing, Engineering Metrics and Training resources, processes, and tools
- Program management experience in either profit and loss or integrated product team
- High proficiency in oral and written communications at all levels within an organization
- US Citizenship and active DoD Secret Clearance is required with the ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI and Special Access Clearance (SAP)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience building and leading teams across geographically dispersed sites
-Systems Engineering experience across multiple program phases
-System level Design Review planning and execution experience for complex systems
- Based out of Rolling Meadows, IL.
Primary Level Salary Range: $231,100.00 - $346,700.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
