About the role

We are seeking a highly skilled and hands-on Director of Engineering to lead the development of Brioโ€™s product lines. This technical leadership role will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of engineering across new product innovation, sustaining engineering, DFM, prototyping, and supplier collaboration. The ideal candidate is a systems thinker with deep mechanical engineering experience who thrives on driving innovation, quality, and speed to market across a cross-functional team.

What you'll do

  • Own the engineering roadmap for Brio's product portfolio, including water coolers, filtration systems, and ice makers
  • Lead the mechanical and electromechanical design process from concept through design freeze, validation, and NPI
  • Oversee CAD development, prototyping, simulation, and testing (thermal, mechanical, flow, structural, etc.)
  • Drive design for manufacturability (DFM), cost optimization, and reliability in collaboration with overseas and domestic suppliers
  • Work closely with Product, Industrial Design, Compliance, and Sourcing to ensure successful integration of hardware, filtration, and control systems
  • Build and manage a high-performing engineering team; provide mentorship, training, and performance feedback
  • Create and enforce engineering documentation standards including BOMs, tolerance stacks, drawing packages, and test plans
  • Support global manufacturing partners with technical input on tooling, process development, and quality
  • Ensure all products meet Brioโ€™s high standards for performance, safety, certification (NSF, UL, DOE), and customer satisfaction

Qualifications

  • BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering or related technical field
  • 10+ years of experience in mechanical product development; consumer appliances or water technology preferred
  • Strong background in electromechanical systems, fluid handling, and thermal systems
  • Proficiency in CAD (SolidWorks or equivalent), GD&T, and design validation tools
  • Experience in injection molding, sheet metal, die casting, and appliance manufacturing processes
  • Proven ability to manage NPI programs, vendor communication, and field reliability improvements
  • Experience with compliance and certification testing (UL, NSF, DOE)
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills with a track record of building and scaling engineering teams
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and project management skills
  • Mandarin or experience working with Asia-based suppliers is a plus
