Description
Are you seeking a challenging yet rewarding leadership opportunity that will allow you to utilize your experience in facilities and maintenance? If so, apply to the Facilities & Maintenance Manager position with the City of Harrisonburg's Department of Public Transportation!
The Facilities & Maintenance Manager position is a full-time exempt position with benefits and a preferred hiring range of $34.78 - $38.25 per hour (equivalent to $72,342 - $79,560 annually); however, an exact salary will be dependent upon the selected candidate's qualifications and experience.
In this position, you'll perform complex professional, technical, and administrative tasks while overseeing and leading a team responsible for the department's grounds, operations, and activities. The selected candidate will be committed to continuous professional development through self-directed education, networking, and participation in relevant courses, training sessions, and events.
Additionally, the Facilities and Maintenance Manager is responsible for:
  • Maintaining and managing buildings and grounds, including preventive maintenance, operations, renovations, and housekeeping functions.
  • Reviewing and recommending actions on improvements, environmental sustainability, and operational efficiency.
  • Collaborating with the Director of Transportation and other supervisors on fiscal planning, contracted services for facility and grounds maintenance and cleaning, building security, pest control, specialized equipment maintenance, and repairs.
  • Managing and directing resources effectively in response to natural and human-made disasters.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in project management, engineering, construction management, facility management, or other related field and considerable (3-5 years) operational experience in facility and grounds maintenance in a supervisory capacity. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be used to meet this requirement.
  • Considerable (3-5 years) experience managing the operations of the repair and maintenance of commercial facilities, including but not limited to housekeeping, grounds, and contractual services.
  • Considerable (3-5 years) experience in an operational environment leading and supervising a staff team with a combination of technical, administrative, and trades functions.
  • Moderate (1-3 years) experience in implementing and managing sustainable practices or resource conservation programs.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Availability to respond to after-hours issues as needed.
Vocational and/or technical training/certification in facilities management, electrical, mechanical, and electronics is highly desired, but not required for consideration.
The selected candidate for this position will be subject to the following screenings and must receive satisfactory results:
  • DMV driving record review;
  • Job-specific physical; and
  • Criminal background check.
