Become a Design/Drafting Specialist at Southern California Edison (SCE) and build a better tomorrow. In this role, you'll join the Tulare/Shaver Lake District Planning Team. You'll play a key role in delivering electrical designs from concept through execution, collaborating closely with planners while operating with a high level of independence. Performs complex designs with scaled work order maps using AUD and prepares pricing, contracts and easements using DM. Transforming complex concepts into precise, high quality drawings that support safe and reliable power systems. Beyond technical delivery, this role offers meaningful influence through mentorship, continuous improvement, and subject matter expertise that elevates standards, efficiency, and safety across the organization.

Responsibilities
  • Interfaces directly with engineering teams to collaborate on project scope requirements, alternatives analysis, and improvement. Performs complex designs with scaled work order maps using AUD and prepares pricing, contracts and easements using DM.
  • Determines CAD usage and application as well as file structuring and setup on projects.
  • Provides support in improvements in design, operation, maintenance and safety for assigned systems and equipment.
  • Draws physical, schematic, and wiring diagrams using Substation standards and symbols. Develop single line diagrams with little or no planner assistance.
  • Assign projects to SCE Contractors, validate labor hours, and review the quality of the deliverables. Prepares scaled work order physical, schematic, and wiring diagram using Computer Aided Design software (CAD) and/or Design Manager (DM).
  • Consults with Substation Engineers to prepare engineering drawings and modifications as required. Supports design efforts on larger-scale residential and commercial projects.
  • Provides training and mentorship to junior designers.
  • Conducts regular meetings with designers on company standards and issues and assists planners on job walks to capture work being performed.
  • Provides direct SME support to process and technology projects in terms of process documentation, Testing, Training and post development project stabilization sessions.
  • A material job duty of all positions within the Company is ensuring the protection of all its physical, financial and cybersecurity assets, and properly accessing and managing private customer data, proprietary information, confidential medical records, and other types of highly sensitive information and data with the highest standards of conduct and integrity.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Three or more years of experience in preparing and maintaining detailed design drawings, schematics or specifications using either computer-aided design or computer-aided engineering software.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Autodesk Utility Design (AUD).
  • AutoCAD Certification
  • Experience with SAP, S4HANA, WorkIt and Share Point.
  • Experience with permit requests
  • Experience with electric utility design
  • Experience with customer service.

Additional Information
  • This position's work mode is hybrid. The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days. Unless otherwise noted, employees are required to work and reside in the state of California. Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage. The work mode can be changed based on business needs.
