You'll bring components and assemblies from concept to into mass production, with a strong emphasis on structural design, weatherproofing, and manufacturability of metal enclosures. As a coach-player, you'll dynamically engage with your team to tackle mechanical design challenges, mentoring team members by sharing your expertise in mechanical design of sheet metal, weldments, and sealing systems for mass production. You'll work cross-functionally with other leaders to define requirements, verification plans, and inspire your team to deliver a design that meets those requirements.
This is an exciting opportunity to be part of scaling our multi-day energy storage system at Form and contributing to a sustainable future. If this sounds like the perfect opportunity for you, apply now! Relocation assistance is available.
What you'll do:

  • Work with consulting companies, vendors, manufacturing engineers, and technical operations to transition designs from the prototype stage to high volume production
  • Drive verification analysis (FEA) and testing of your team's design work
  • Establish best practices for structures design and level-up your team members
  • Recruit and hire engineers who share your same vision for excellence in design
  • Release designs consistent with company and team best practices (drawings, tolerance analysis, etc)
  • Guide team through failure root cause analysis on systems and components
  • Travel up to 20% to other Form Energy offices or vendor sites

What you'll bring:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field and 7+ years industry experience in mechanical design
  • Experience leading design work for complex mechanical systems and structural design, using FEA for structural analysis
  • Experience managing 2 or more direct reports in a functional leadership capacity
  • Proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD), specifically SolidWorks modeling and drafting using GD&T (ASME Y14.5-2018)
  • Proficient in component design for mass manufacturing and assembly (DFMA), especially sheet metal, stampings, and weldments
