Pay Range: ย ย ย ย ย ย ย $18.22 - $22.31 per hour, 20-25 per week

Status: ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Non-Exempt

Job Summary:

Performs routine and technical support work in the library's Makerspace. Assists patrons in safely using equipment, provides basic instruction and demonstrations, and helps maintain software, supplies, and tools to ensure smooth daily operations. Focuses on youth by supporting the implementation of creative, hands-on learning programs related to STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math). Collaborates with library staff to promote innovation, learning, and creativity in the community.ย ย 

Essential Job Functions:


Assists with programs and instruction.

  1. Aids in preparing and leading small and large group activities and workshops related to STEAM and creative technologies.
  2. Represents the library at local promotional events and activities.
  3. Demonstrates equipment and software during programs or open lab hours.
  4. Assists the Makerspace Coordinator and other staff in implementing new activities and programs.
  5. Creates examples and display projects that highlight Makerspace capabilities.

Provides makerspace assistance and customer service.

  1. Welcomes patrons and provides customer service in the Makerspace and Creation Station.
  2. Assist patrons with operation of equipment such as 3D printers, laser cutters, embroidery and sewing machines, and other creative tools.
  3. Explains safety procedures and ensures compliance with library policies and equipment guidelines.
  4. Helps patrons with related software, mobile apps, and digital tools.
  5. Monitors and manages equipment queues (e.g., 3D printing) to maintain efficient use of resources.

Supports equipment and technology maintenance.

  1. Performs routine maintenance, cleaning, and setup of equipment and workspace.
  2. Assists in updating documentation and procedures for commonly used tools and software.
  3. Identifies and reports equipment issues to the supervisor promptly.
  4. Stocks supplies, organizes materials, and maintains an orderly workspace.

Supports administrative and team functions.

  1. Collects and reports daily and monthly usage statistics.
  2. Participates in planning and visioning discussions related to Makerspace services.
  3. Represents the Makerspace at community programs or events as assigned.
  4. Performs other duties as assigned.



Requirements

Professional & Technical Knowledge:

  • Possesses a basic level of written and verbal communications skills, computational and computer skills and mathematical knowledge typically acquired through completion of a high school program.
  • Possesses specific knowledge of library processes and practices, typically learned "on the job," or which may include a series of training sessions that would comprise a few weeks if done consecutively.

Licenses & Certifications:

  • None.

Technical Skills:

  • Possesses computer skills necessary to effectively access information using standard business applications and software, including email, web browsers and web applications, Microsoft Office, and Outlook.

General Development:

  • Functions effectively in response to workflow or ongoing direction by supervisors.
  • Determines effective responses to situations encountered within established precedent.
  • Able to effectively explain complex or technical information to others.ย

Work Environment:

  • Work is performed in a public library setting, including both office and public service areas.
