Manufacturing Engineer
Lansing, MI Area
Onsite, Permanent, Direct Hire

A premier, growing advanced manufacturing facility in Central Michigan is seeking a hands-on Manufacturing Engineer to support continuous improvement, CNC machining operations, and process optimizations on the production floor.
This role is ideal for a collaborative problem-solver who thrives in a dynamic environment, enjoys working directly with production, quality, and maintenance teams, and is eager to expand their expertise in automation, CNC machining, and modern manufacturing practices.
Key Responsibilities
Process & Operations Support
  • Support daily manufacturing operations by identifying, troubleshooting, and resolving process, tooling, and equipment issues.
  • Analyze operational data to identify trends, eliminate waste, and optimize Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).
  • Champion Lean Manufacturing initiatives and lead root-cause investigations to implement lasting corrective actions.
  • Partner with production and safety teams to enhance workplace ergonomics and champion safe manufacturing standards compliant with OSHA guidelines.
CNC Machining & Technical Engineering
  • Assist with CNC machining troubleshooting, cycle optimization, and equipment enhancements.
  • Interpret engineering drawings and apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles.
  • Support modifications to CNC parameters, program adjustments, and tooling offsets (working primarily with Siemens 840D, Fanuc, and Allen Bradley controls).
  • Participate in prototype machining, engineering trials, and validation of new cutting tools.
  • Utilize AutoCAD to support floor layouts and equipment updates.
Quality & Launch Support
  • Contribute to APQP activities for new product launches.
  • Partner with Quality to assist in the development and maintenance of Process FMEAs (PFMEAs) and Control Plans.
  • Assist in capability studies and process validation activities.
  • Provide ongoing technical mentorship and operational guidance to CNC Machinists and floor personnel.
Qualifications
Required
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering (or an equivalent combination of education and direct hands-on experience).
  • Experience: 1-10 years of experience in a manufacturing engineering role (machining or automotive background strongly preferred).
  • Technical Skills: Strong ability to read engineering drawings and understand GD&T principles. Basic foundational knowledge of CNC machining processes.
  • Soft Skills: Driven problem-solver, excellent interpersonal communication, and proficiency with MS Office Suite.
Preferred
  • Direct experience or exposure to Siemens 840D, Fanuc, or Allen Bradley controls.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD.
  • Working knowledge of APQP, PFMEA, and Control Plans.
  • Hands-on experience with SAP or other enterprise ERP systems.
