About this opportunity
Owen-Ames-Kimball Co. is hiring an Estimator for our Central Region based in Lansing, MI to lead preconstruction and estimating efforts for commercial construction projects of varying size and complexity. This role works closely with preconstruction, operations, design partners, and subcontractors to develop accurate cost estimates, support bidding strategy, and ensure well-coordinated, high-quality project outcomes.
What you'll do
  • Prepare conceptual and detailed cost estimates across multiple construction disciplines
  • Perform quantity takeoffs, cost modeling, and scope analysis using industry tools
  • Review drawings and specifications to identify scope, risks, and cost drivers
  • Manage subcontractor outreach, bid packages, and proposal evaluations
  • Collaborate with design teams to resolve issues and support value engineering
  • Assist with bid strategy, schedules, and final proposal development
  • Track market pricing trends and maintain historical cost data
  • Support project handoff by providing clear assumptions, documentation, and cost insights

What we're looking for
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field
  • 5+ years of commercial construction estimating experience
  • Strong knowledge of construction means and methods, materials, and building systems
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, and technical documents
  • Proficiency with estimating tools (e.g., On-Screen Takeoff, Bluebeam) and Microsoft Office
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
