WSP has a career opportunity for an Consultant Design Engineer/Assistant Project Manager to join our full-service water design team in Seattle, WA that supports both municipal and industrial projects in Washington and elsewhere. Our ideal candidate is seeking challenging work and would provide project management and technical assistance for design and coordination of drinking water and wastewater projects. Tasks may include assisting with utility relocations, permitting, design, specification writing, and cost estimating for water/wastewater utility projects.
Your Impact
  • Lead and perform engineering design work for water utility projects (drinking water, wastewater) in support of senior design engineers
  • Provide and/or manage engineering design work services for water/wastewater utility projects
    • This could include studies, analysis, and design of water treatment and distribution systems, as well as wastewater collection and treatment systems, which may include pump/lift stations, wells, chemical feed systems, and storage reservoirs
  • Lead development of modeling techniques, design requirements, and operating strategies to meet the water and wastewater requirements of various clients and project teams
  • Lead coordination with local utilities to facilitate necessary utility relocations as part of the water/wastewater project design process
  • Setup, lead, and perform hydraulic modeling for water and sewer systems
  • Prepare plans/drawings for water and wastewater infrastructure systems using industry-standard design platforms, such as AutoCAD, Civil3D, Revit, etc. Ability to use CAD software is considered a plus
  • Prepare design calculations and quantity estimates
  • Support project managers in developing scope, costs, budgets and schedules for studies, design and construction services related to water & wastewater projects, including pipelines, pump stations & treatment plant works
  • Coordinate development of cost estimates for water and wastewater projects by developing quantity take-offs and working to confirm unit costs align with industry standards
  • Maintain quality control standards and procedures for accurate and precise measurements, statistical analysis, and reporting.
  • Assist with performing concept level design of treatment works, analysis of hydrologic and hydraulic models, and computations for storm water and watershed master planning, stream restoration, and water quality studies.
  • Lead development of and contribute to the preparation of technical reports and presentations that explain research and findings related to wastewater and drinking water utility design
  • Lead and manage analysis, evaluation, and interpretation of environmental data obtained during field investigations, offering input with developing action plans for low to mid-level threat mitigation activities.
  • Lead preparation and implementation of site Health and Safety Plans (HASPs).
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, with a focus in Water Resources or closely related discipline.
  • 3 to 5 years of relevant post education experience in water resources engineering.
  • Engineer in Training Certification.
  • Knowledge of water resource engineering principles, practices, process, design/build, and the application to environmental permitting and project work-related issues.
  • Knowledge of Water/Wastewater design, Stormwater Management, Drainage, Erosion and Sediment Control, Hydrology & Hydraulics Design, Watershed Studies, Floodplain Delineation, etc.
  • Ability to coordinate with agency regulators and understand requirements.
  • Knowledge with the concepts of reducing and eliminating the use or generation of hazardous substances, processes, or products., and mitigation programs.
  • Knowledge of the techniques used in identifying, measuring, sampling and studying environmental control.
  • Knowledge of relevant environmental laws, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
  • Basic experience with preparing permit applications for oversight agencies to address the full range of environmental issues and conditions associated with water resources projects.
  • Capable interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
  • Effective self-leadership with attention to detail, results orientation, and managing multiple priorities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, follow instruction, work independently, and comply with company policies.
  • Moderate proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, technology, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools.
  • Familiarity with surface water analysis, hydrologic methodologies/models (TR-55, HEC-HMS, etc.), hydraulic models (HEC-RAS, HEC-RAS-2D, HEC-GeoRAS, SRH-2D, etc), and with ESRI ArcGIS software.
  • Experience with coordinating technical matters with public and private groups
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, statistical analysis and arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree in Engineering.
  • Essential Professional Licensure/Certification.
  • 40-Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) (29 CFR 1910.120) preferred.
  • Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training desired.

Compensation:
Expected Salary: $78,600 - $135,000
WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location.
