Mechanical Engineering Manager - Stanley Access Technologies

Location: Farmington, CT or Greenfield, IN (Greenfield, IN 6825 West 400 North)

The Mechanical Engineering Manager is responsible for leading a team of mechanical engineers in the design, development, and continuous improvement of access control and automatic door systems. This role oversees New Product Development (NPD), Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VAVE), quality improvements, and engineering tool enhancements while fostering an engaged, inclusive, and highโ€‘performing team culture. Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to be employed in the United States; sponsorship for employment visa status will not be provided.

What You Will Do
  • Lead, coach, and mentor the mechanical engineering and configuration teams, performing dataโ€‘driven manpower planning and strategic resource alignment to ensure capacity focuses on highโ€‘value business priorities while driving team engagement (Gallup, DE&I, 5S).
  • Oversee New Product Development (NPD), legacy product updates (e.g., Duraโ€‘Storm), and VAVE initiatives, instilling a bias for action to streamline Phase & Gate readiness, design reviews (MEDR/IDR), and timeโ€‘toโ€‘market.
  • Direct the engineering change process (ECN/MCN/CIB) and manage configuration resources to resolve legacy product data issues, auditing 3D models, drawings, and Partโ€‘Centric structures for accurate alignment across Windchill, ERP, and cutsheets.
  • Champion โ€œcradleโ€‘toโ€‘graveโ€ ownership by leading crossโ€‘functional Tiger Teams to rapidly resolve Problem Reports (PRs), field escalations, and complex manufacturing/installation issues, including largeโ€‘scale Transit projects.
  • Manage and optimize enterprise engineering tools (Allegion Atlas/Windchill, ERP) and drive Partโ€‘Centric rollouts, promoting innovation through advanced tools like FEA, 3D printing, and AI (AlleGPT).
  • Collaborate with Global Supply Management (GSM) to drive productivity, onboard new suppliers, evaluate PPAP documentation, and optimize product designs for manufacturability, installation, and service.
What You Need to Succeed
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field (Masterโ€™s preferred).
  • Experience: 5+ years of engineering experience, including a proven track record in a leadership, talent development, or managerial role.
  • Technical Proficiency: High proficiency in 3D CAD software (Creo preferred) and PLM/ERP systems (Windchill/Microsoft Dynamics D365); strong understanding of engineering change processes (ECN/MCN), ERP configurators, and BOM management.
  • Product & Manufacturing Knowledge: Extensive experience executing NPD and VAVE, with familiarity in manufacturing processes such as aluminum extrusion, castings, and finishing. Knowledge of electroโ€‘mechanical systems is a plus.
  • Problem Solving & Crossโ€‘Functional Leadership: Excellent structured problemโ€‘solving skills (5โ€‘Why, 8D, Rootโ€‘Cause Analysis) with the ability to lead crossโ€‘functional Tiger Teams and take uncompromising ownership of issue resolution across departmental borders.
  • Strategic Execution & Resource Management: Demonstrated ability to perform manpower planning, develop business cases, and strategically align engineering and configuration resources to maximize team performance, efficiency, and ROI.
  • Travel: Expected 25% travel between Farmington, CT and Mt. Comfort, IN locations.
  • Communication & Culture: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with a passion for fostering an inclusive workplace, driving team engagement, and instilling urgency across the organization.
