Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site position located in the Greater San Luis Obispo area, with responsibilities divided between office-based and field-based work. The Project Engineer / Inspector will support civil engineering projects from initial planning and design through construction and closeout. Office responsibilities include performing civil design and drafting using AutoCAD Civil 3D; preparing plans, profiles, grading, quantity takeoffs, and technical documentation.

Field responsibilities include serving as the Representative Project Engineer / Engineering Inspector during construction activities. This includes observing construction operations, verifying compliance with approved plans and specifications, coordinating with contractors, agencies, and project stakeholders, documenting field conditions, and supporting construction administration. The role requires close collaboration with internal teams and external partners to ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, and in accordance with quality and safety standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering discipline
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification preferred; Professional Engineer (PE) license a plus
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D, including preparation of plans, profiles, grading, and quantity takeoffs
  • Experience with civil engineering design for public works and/or infrastructure projects (e.g., site development, roadway, drainage, or utilities)
  • Familiarity with construction plans, technical specifications, and contract documents
  • Experience performing or supporting construction inspection, field observation, or construction administration activities
  • Ability to serve as a Representative Project Representative / Engineering Inspector, including coordination with contractors, agencies, and stakeholders
