Client is unable to provide visa sponsorship now or in the future.

Job Description

This Controls Engineer role focuses on providing remote technical support for PLC-controlled conveyor and automation systems in fast-paced warehouse and airport environments. You will diagnose and resolve controls and electrical issues, guide onsite maintenance teams, and participate in a 24/7 rotating on-call support schedule, with occasional travel to customer sites when remote support is not sufficient. This position offers the opportunity to grow with a rapidly expanding parcel integrator that has strong industry leadership and significant long-term growth potential.

Responsibilities

  • Provide remote troubleshooting and technical support for parcel handling automation systems, with a focus on PLC-controlled conveyor and automation equipment.
  • Respond promptly to PLC and electrical system support calls from customers, including large e‑commerce and logistics operations.
  • Diagnose and resolve controls-related issues affecting conveyor and automation systems using PLC logic and electrical schematics.
  • Guide onsite maintenance and technician teams step-by-step through troubleshooting procedures and system recovery activities.
  • Analyze electrical schematics and control logic to identify root causes of system faults and recommend corrective actions.
  • Assist with system diagnostics, software troubleshooting, and control system recovery to minimize downtime.
  • Provide clear guidance on proper system operation, preventive maintenance procedures, and best practices for controls and electrical systems.
  • Serve as a technical point of contact for customer support requests, ensuring professional and solution-oriented interactions.
  • Maintain clear, concise, and professional communication with customers and onsite teams throughout troubleshooting activities.
  • Provide timely updates on system status, expected resolution times, and next steps during support engagements.
  • Document service activities thoroughly, including troubleshooting steps, findings, and final resolutions, and maintain accurate support records.
  • Support the After Sales team with activities related to service contracts, spare parts, and small automation or controls projects.
  • Assist with system upgrades, modifications, and continuous improvement initiatives related to service and support operations.
  • Participate in a 24/7 rotating support schedule to ensure continuous customer coverage and rapid response to critical issues.
  • Travel occasionally to customer sites for onsite troubleshooting, commissioning support, or follow-up service when required.

Essential Skills

  • Proven experience troubleshooting PLC-controlled conveyor or automation systems in high-volume environments.
  • Strong ability to diagnose controls and electrical issues remotely in a fast-paced support setting.
  • Hands-on knowledge of PLC troubleshooting and electrical systems, including control panels and field devices.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and control logic accurately and efficiently.
  • Experience supporting high-volume automation environments such as warehouses, distribution centers, or airport facilities.
  • Experience in material handling, conveyor systems, or airport baggage handling systems.
  • Experience providing remote technical support as part of a service or after-sales team.
  • Clear, professional verbal and written communication skills to guide onsite technicians and customers through troubleshooting procedures.
  • Willingness and ability to participate in a 24/7 rotating support schedule.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally for onsite troubleshooting, commissioning, or service activities.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with system upgrades, retrofits, or continuous improvement efforts for automation or controls systems.
  • Exposure to small automation or controls projects, including engineering analysis and implementation support.
  • Familiarity with parcel handling or logistics automation environments.
  • Experience working with PLC platforms such as ControlLogix or similar systems.
  • Strong customer service mindset with a focus on responsiveness, reliability, and long-term customer relationships.
  • Interest in growing with a rapidly scaling company and contributing to the development of service processes and best practices.
  • Motivation to build long-term wealth through participation in an employee-focused ownership structure such as an ESOP when implemented.

Work Environment

This position is primarily office-based and focused on remote support operations, using phone, email, and remote-access tools to assist customers. You will work with PLC-controlled conveyor and automation systems used in warehouse and airport environments, including technologies such as material handling equipment and parcel handling automation. Occasional travel to customer sites is required for onsite troubleshooting, commissioning, or service support. The company operates as a growing, agile parcel integrator with a small-team environment, ambitious growth goals, and leadership with a strong track record in building and scaling automation businesses.
