Job Summary

Location: Calvert City, KY

This expert level position is responsible for the installation, calibration, maintenance, testing, troubleshooting, and optimization of complex instrumentation, control, electrical, and electronic systems within a power generation plant. This role serves as a technical lead, providing mentorship to other technicians, supporting plant reliability and performance initiatives, and contributing to continuous improvement, safety leadership, and system upgrades. The Instrument & Controls SME exercises a high degree of independent judgment, initiative, and discretion and works with minimal supervision. The position partners closely with Plant Management, Engineering, Operations, and external contractors. Performance is evaluated based on operational reliability, technical leadership, safety outcomes, and adherence to company policies and procedures.

Key Accountabilities
  • Serve as the technical lead for plant instrumentation, control systems, and electrical equipment, including low-voltage electrical equipment up to 600 VAC
  • Calibrate, test, maintain, troubleshoot, install and repair plant instrumentation, control systems and electrical equipment
  • Lead and perform complex maintenance and troubleshooting on motor control centers, motor operated valves, generators, excitation equipment and motors
  • Perform and oversee preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities, ensuring work quality, safety compliance and minimal downtime
  • Troubleshoot and maintain DC backup power systems, distributed control systems (DCS), programmable logic controllers (PLC), analytical and emissions monitoring equipment (CEM)
  • Design, evaluate, and implement equipment upgrades, system modifications, and reliability improvements Maintain and audit Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) data ensure accuracy, completenss and asset maintenance
  • Provide technical guidance, mentoring and training to team members
  • Lead root cause analysis and continuous improvement efforts
  • Support capital projects, system upgrades and small construction projects
  • Interpret and develop drawings, schematics, specifications and procedures
  • Procure and manage inventory to support maintenance and repair activities
  • Oversee and evaluate contractor work related to IC&E systems, ensuring quality and compliance.
  • Comply with all site safety and environmental requirements and procedures
  • Perform operations in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOP's) and prudent safety standards
  • Serve as a key member of the Site Safety Committee, leading safety initiatives, performing hazard assessments and implementing corrective actions
  • Perform plant electrical switching and lock-out/tag-out (LOTO) of equipment in accordance with approved procedures and maintenance best practices
  • Communicate technical and operational information clearly and professionally to internal teams, management, vendors, and customers
  • Coordinate work activities with operations, engineering, management, and contractors to support plant and corporate goals
  • Work scheduled and unscheduled overtime and respond to off-hour call-ins as required
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Education & Experience Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Seven (7) years' experience as an IC&E Technician and in a power generation plant
  • Advanced experience with low-voltage electrical systems up to 600 VAC
  • Valid driver's license and ability to maintain eligibility 
Other Qualifications

Preferred: 

  • Associate Degree in related field 

Other Requirements:  

  • Expert knowledge of electrical equipment, electronics, schematics, controls, and instrumentation
  • Advanced ability to calibrate I&C systems and equipment, including analytic equipment
  • Advanced proficiency with test instruments used for diagnostics of DCS, PLCs, MCCs, generators, transformers, and CEM systems
  • Ability to complete site-specific qualification training and periodic testing
  • Strong working knowledge of plant safety policies, and procedures,
  • including electrical safety, chemicals, confined spaces, and emergency response
  • Solid understanding of fundamental including AC/DC electrical theory, heat transfer, fluid flow, thermal dynamics and chemistry
  • Effective verbal and written communication skillsAbility to adapt to changing business needs and operational prioritiesProficiency in CMMS systems and Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
