Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and energetic Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join our dynamic maintenance team. In this role, you will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a wide range of heavy construction machinery and industrial equipment. Your expertise will ensure that all equipment operates efficiently, safely, and reliably to support our ongoing projects. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work with diverse machinery including excavators, cranes, forklifts, tractors, and other construction and farm machinery. Your mechanical knowledge and hands-on skills will be vital in keeping our operations running smoothly and safely.

Duties

  • Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and repairs on heavy equipment such as excavators, cranes, bulldozers, and forklifts.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical issues using schematics, electrical diagnostics, hydraulic systems, and automotive diagnostics tools.
  • Conduct diesel engine diagnostics and repairs, including engine overhaul, transmission servicing, brake repair, suspension work, and air brake systems.
  • Fabricate parts or components as needed using welding and hand tools to ensure equipment longevity and performance.
  • Diagnose electrical systems including HVAC systems, electrical wiring, sensors, and control modules to resolve operational issues promptly.
  • Use power tools and specialized equipment to disassemble, repair, or assemble machinery parts according to OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) specifications.
  • Maintain detailed service records of repairs performed and parts used; ensure compliance with safety standards during all maintenance activities.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic
  • Strong mechanical knowledge of construction machinery maintenance including hydraulics, transmissions, suspensions, tires/tire service, and diesel engine repair.
  • Proficiency in reading schematics and technical manuals for electrical systems and heavy equipment operation.
  • Skilled in welding, fabrication, soldering, and the use of hand tools and power tools for equipment repair.
  • Ability to perform heavy lifting safely while working in various environments; familiarity with crane operation is a plus.
  • Knowledge of OEM parts replacement procedures for Caterpillar equipment or similar brands; experience with farm machinery is advantageous.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills for equipment troubleshooting across industrial equipment including excavators, cranes, forklifts, tractors-trailers, and construction machinery.
