What does an energy strategy manager do?

An Energy Strategy Manager is responsible for developing and implementing strategies to optimize an organization’s energy use, improve sustainability, and reduce costs. They analyze energy consumption data, identify areas for efficiency improvements, and recommend solutions such as renewable energy integration or process changes. These professionals work closely with stakeholders, manage energy projects, and ensure compliance with regulations. Their role is crucial in helping organizations achieve environmental goals and long-term cost savings.

Job Description

WGL - Senior Partner, Organizational Design & Workforce Strategy

We are seeking a seasoned organizational design and workforce strategy professional to join a small, highly skilled team with strong executive sponsorship and clear priorities. This role offers the opportunity to influence enterprise outcomes while helping shape how this evolving capability takes form. This position plays a critical enterprise‑level advisory and delivery mandate, shaping how our utilities business designs its organizations, deploys talent, and evolves operating models to enable strategy execution, transformation, and AI enabled ways of working. Operating as a senior individual contributor and trusted thought partner, the role works closely with executive leaders, functional heads, and the Director, Organization & Workforce Strategy to design fit‑for‑purpose structures, governance models, and workforce strategies with material implications for cost, risk, productivity, and execution effectiveness. It is an ideal opportunity for someone who thrives in complexity, knows how to work with senior levels, and wants to leave a meaningful imprint on how a large organization evolves.

What You'll Do
  • Lead end to end organizational design and operating model initiatives across large, complex functions and enterprise programs
  • Translate enterprise and functional strategies into future state organizational designs, including operating models, governance structures, roles, accountabilities, and spans and layers optimization
  • Conduct current state diagnostics, benchmarking, and scenario analysis to define improvement opportunities and inform decision making
  • Develop and evaluate alternative organizational and service delivery models, assessing impacts across cost, capacity, decision rights, risk, employee experience, and execution effectiveness
  • Build clear, defensible business cases for organizational design decisions, articulating financial implications, scalability, trade offs, and value realization
  • Support strategic workforce planning by translating strategic direction into multi year supply and demand scenarios and identifying critical capability gaps
  • Ensure organizational designs enable technology-driven operating models, including ERP, digital, and AI-enabled transformations, while balancing operational effectiveness, governance, risk, and workforce impacts
  • Design and facilitate executive and leadership workshops to drive alignment, navigate trade offs, and support timely decisions
  • Craft executive ready narratives and materials that translate complex analysis into clear, compelling, decision ready insights
  • Partner closely with utility business leaders, corporate functions and regulatory & governance stakeholders to support implementation and sustained impact
  • Coach leaders and HR partners on organizational design and workforce strategy thinking, building enterprise capability over time
What You'll Bring
  • 8–12+ years of progressive experience in organizational design, workforce strategy, management consulting, or enterprise transformation
  • Expertise in organizational design, operating model transformation, and workforce strategy within complex, asset intensive environments
  • Strong business and financial acumen, with the ability to link organizational design decisions to cost, productivity, controls, risk, and performance outcomes
  • Experience supporting utility, energy, infrastructure, or similarly complex organizations through business transformation, organizational redesign, operating model optimization, and workforce strategy initiatives
  • Proven ability to operate as a trusted senior advisor, influencing executives and facilitating high stakes, confidential decision forums
  • Advanced analytical, modeling, and scenario planning capability, including comfort with data backed storytelling
  • Exceptional executive communication and workshop facilitation skills, with a strong narrative mindset
  • Experience designing organizations in regulated energy and/or multi-jurisdictional environments is a strong asset
  • Bachelor's degree required; graduate degree or formal organizational design certification considered an asset
Why Join AltaGas
  • Contribute to meaningful, enterprise-wide decisions, influencing how our utility structures its organization, deploys talent, and enables future ways of working
  • Operate as a trusted senior advisor, partnering closely with executive leaders on complex, high impact initiatives while remaining a senior individual contributor focused on depth, influence, and outcomes
  • Join a newly established, high impact team with clear priorities and strong executive sponsorship, offering the opportunity to help define how organizational design and workforce strategy are delivered across the enterprise
