Job description

Internal Job Title: Market Analyst III

Reports to: VP, Insights

FLSA Status:ย Exempt, Full Time

Location: US, Remote (Preference for candidates in Chicago IL, Platteville WI, or Ames IA)

External Job Title: Market Analyst - Dairy Protein Markets

About the Role

The Dairy Protein Market Analyst is one of the most unique roles on the Ever.Ag Insights team - and in the industry. Unlike traditional commodity roles where data flows freely, dairy proteins are a relationship-driven market. The intelligence isn't sitting in a public report waiting to be found. It lives in conversations with co-ops, processors, CPG buyers, and traders across a global supply chain. Your job is to have those conversations, earn the trust of the people in them, and separate signal from noise.

This is a role for someone who is equal parts analyst and detective - someone who can sit across from a seller reporting one price and a buyer reporting another, and ask the right questions to figure out what's actually happening in the market. You'll synthesize that intelligence with publicly available data to produce proprietary price forecasts, written market outlooks, and client-facing publications that Ever.Ag's subscribers rely on to make real procurement, pricing, and risk management decisions.

If you're a curious, commercially minded person who loves digging into markets, building relationships across an industry, and communicating what you find in a clear and compelling way - this role was built for you.

What You'll Do

Dairy Protein Market Coverage

  • Monitor and analyze high protein whey markets (WPC, WPI, functional whey ingredients) and high protein milk markets (concentrated milk, MPC/MPI)
  • Track global supply and demand dynamics, trade flows, and price trends to develop Ever.Ag's proprietary pricing series
  • Engage directly with market participants - sellers, buyers, co-ops, aggregators, trading companies, CPG companies, protein bar brands, and processors - to harvest market intelligence and build a clear picture of what's driving prices
  • Identify key market drivers including milk composition trends, processing capacity, and end-use demand across sports nutrition, food manufacturing, and beyond
  • Develop forward-looking price outlooks and volatility risk assessments across dairy protein markets

Forecasting & Data Analysis

  • Build and maintain analytical models and tools to support high protein dairy market forecasts
  • Analyze key datasets - production, inventories, trade flows, and pricing - and translate findings into clear, actionable conclusions
  • Collaborate with senior analysts and data teams to refine methodologies and sharpen forecasting accuracy
  • Ensure consistency, integrity, and transparency across all data outputs

Market Intelligence & Content

  • Own the development and distribution of a monthly client-facing publication on dairy protein markets, including proprietary price series and forecasts
  • Contribute written market commentary and outlooks that meet Ever.Ag's high editorial standards
  • Prepare charts, visualizations, and presentation-ready materials for internal and external audiences
  • Support cross-commodity analysis across cheese, butter, NFDM/SMP, and whey markets as needed - familiarity with these markets is a plus, and curiosity to learn them is a must
  • Respond to ad hoc client and internal research requests

Client Engagement & Relationship Development

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with buyers, sellers, and processors across global dairy protein markets
  • Support client conversations with timely data, insights, and market context - and be ready to defend your analysis when clients push back (they will, and that's part of the job)
  • Identify opportunities for subscription growth, renewals, and value-added advisory services
  • Collaborate with sales and leadership to expand Ever.Ag's footprint in dairy protein intelligence

Collaboration & Continuous Improvement

  • Partner cross-functionally with analysts, economists, and data teams to enhance insights delivery
  • Contribute to the evolution of Ever.Ag's protein market coverage and analytical capabilities
  • Document processes and support improvements in research workflows and tools
  • Other duties as assigned

What Success Looks Like

In this role, you'll know you're making an impact when clients are subscribing to the Ingredient Digest and engaging with Ever.Ag's advisory services because of the value your analysis delivers. Growth here isn't measured in titles - it's measured in the reputation you build, the relationships you develop, and the visibility you earn in a fast-moving global marketplace.

What You Bring

Must Have:

  • 2-5 years of experience in dairy protein markets, procurement, commodity trading, or a related field
  • Familiarity with dairy commodity markets (NFDM/SMP, whey, milk protein concentrates, ultra-filtered milks, etc.) is REQUIRED.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to build and maintain forecasting models
  • Excellent written communication skills and the ability to adapt to editorial standards
  • A self-starter mentality - this role is largely self-directed, and you'll be held accountable by your clients as much as your manager
  • A sharp instinct for vetting information and identifying when a market contact may not be telling the full story
  • Comfort engaging with clients directly, defending your analysis, and absorbing constructive feedback professionally

Nice to Have:

  • Familiarity with adjacent dairy commodity markets (cheese, butter, NFDM/SMP)
  • Experience presenting market insights to external audiences or clients
  • Comfort engaging publicly - at industry events, on client calls, or in written content that carries your name and Ever.Ag's brand

Why Ever.Ag Insights

You'll join a small but accomplished team of analysts, data professionals, and writers who take their work seriously and have built a strong reputation in the market. The team is growing its analytical capabilities and investing in its digital presence - meaning you'll have a real opportunity to shape what dairy protein coverage looks like at Ever.Ag, not just execute someone else's vision. For the right person, this is as much about building your own brand as it is about building ours.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Economics, Agricultural Economics, Finance, Statistics, or related field.
  • 2-5 years of experience in buying/selling high protein commodities and/or analyzing high protein dairy markets.
  • Strong understanding of high protein whey markets and/or high protein milk markets preferred.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (data analysis, modeling).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to simplify complex analysis.
  • Familiarity with dairy commodity markets (cheese, butter, NFDM/SMP, whey) a must.

Competencies for Success

  • Relationship Builder: Proven ability to establish credibility and build trust with clients and industry stakeholders.
  • Analytical & DataDriven: Strong quantitative skills with the ability to extract insights from complex datasets.
  • Commercial Mindset: Understands market dynamics and how analysis translates into business decisions.
  • Communication: Delivers clear, concise, and actionable insights in written and visual formats.
  • Collaborative: Works effectively across teams in a fastpaced, remote environment.
  • Curiosity & Continuous Learning: Demonstrates strong interest in dairy protein markets and evolving industry trends.
